Abortion was legalized in Portugal in 2007. Roe v. Wade was overturned in the US in 2022.

A quote from her about the series:

“It highlights the fear and pain and danger of an illegal abortion, which is what desperate women have always resorted to. It’s very wrong to criminalise women on top of everything else. Making abortions illegal is forcing women to the backstreet solution.” ⬇️

I wanted to start off Women's History Month by sharing some works by Paula Rego. In these works, Rego documents women going through dangerous terminations when abortion was illegal in Portugal. ⬇️

Hoping that 2025 brings new friends, new opportunities, and community. ❤️

Whatever 2025 may bring, I find comfort in the certainties that there is good in the world, that I create and get to experience the work of others, and that I love and am loved.

Through this period, though, I felt so much support and love. I learned that loss is a universal experience. I came out of it knowing that, even after breaks, artmaking is an essential part of my being. ⬇️

A goodbye to 2024 - 

This past year I lost many people. I lost my brother, my aunt, my cousin, my dog. I found it incredibly hard to create through all of the grief.  ⬇️
