"Mid" has always meant "bad". Mid is disappointing. Mid is a response to someone playing up something more grand, but it's average at best. "passable" is not Good. We want better than "ok". If we spend extra money and time going to the theater, it better be Good. Minimum.

"average" is unacceptable for something that wants our money and time. We have average at home. At the theater, we want Good and Great.

"mid" was always meant as a "not as good as you think you are". Average at best. Nothing to write home about. Not special. Not worth what you are making it out to be, etc. "Mid" is bad when expectations were high.

I'm not going to the theater for "mid". I don't want to spend extra time and extra money going to the theater for nothing less than Good or Great.
