I NEVER charge at a public charging spot- I have an "old" EV that doesn't even have DCFC. Yet it meets essentially all my needs, including day trips to the coast or the mountains. The exception is longer road trips, (225+ miles, 4x/yr) I spend more money on tire wear than "fuel."
