It’s been 40 years since Angela Hewitt (@angejsb.bsky.social) won the Toronto International Bach Piano Competition, held to celebrate Bach’s 300th birthday and honour the late Glenn Gould. I remember listening to the performances on CBC radio. (And I was a tad pleased when a Canadian won.)

I have played in some gorgeous places in Italy this week, including the auditorium of the Museo del Violino in Cremona, home of Stradivarius. And tonight in Parma's Teatro Regio. A joy always to be in this country and to play for the people here.

5 recitals in 8 days in 3 countries. Whew! A satisfying programme of Handel, Bach, Haydn, Brahms. I'm playing it again in Portland OR on April 20 and in Milan May 6. Now 3 Mozart Concertos in Brussels/Cologne/Budapest. But first a Bach Goldberg in Rome on Feb.8. See you there?! Photos: @sterkoder

On Saturday I'm supposed to fly to South Korea. Well, let's see what the situation is then. That came out of the blue! For the moment I'm going to Vienna where I perform tomorrow in the beautiful Brahms Saal at the Musikverein. Can't wait! And I'm even playing Brahms--his terrific Handel Variations.

Fabulous feeling to be back in Amsterdam's famed Concertgebouw playing Mozart with the Bochum Symphoniker. Packed out at 11 am. Live on Dutch radio. Nothing like that descent (and ascent!) on the huge staircase to get to the stage. And in long dress and high heels! Menahem Pressler did it age 97!
