Cold autumn weather, a bit foggy. A meandering street descends to a bunch of tall buildings guarded by a squad of thujas. Traffic is denser down below, where the narrow street merges into an active one, but there are no moving cars close.

After the annexation of Transcarpathia in 1945 USSR would deny the existence of Rusyns and label them as Ukrainians. The modern Ukrainian state decided to continue that and just claim Rusyn heritage and people as their own.

This whole bit about Warhols being Ukrainian or singing Ukrainian songs is based on Soviets ruling that Rusyns are non-existent and are to be considered Ukrainians. It’s kind of misinformation and an extension of current Ukrainian policy that Rusyns are merely “wild illiterate village Ukrainians”.

It’s neither Slovak nor Ukrainian, it’s Rusyn. The distinct close-mid back unrounded sound (denoted by Ŷ/Ы in Prešov Latin/Cyrillic) is clearly heard (esp. in выберала), there is also strong е→и assimilation as in зилининькым prominently present to this day in Subcarpathian Rusyn.

Some more stuff taken with Fig, but with a custom process based on the Alpha tone curve, LUTs applied, noise reduction turned off. The only edit done in “post” was minor healing in the hawfinch picture.

Pretty ironic of you to speak about systemic falsification of history when you’re trying to paint Warhol as a Ukrainian, lol. His parents were from Miková—try and look up where it is. About 100 km from the modern Ukrainian border, and it was even further away when Warhol’s father emigrated to USA.
