sometimes i wonder if people even like playing minecraft anymore. a lot of the complaints i've seen have been solely that things are added that are "useless", that they don't serve the purpose of defeating the ender dragon, that they don't have progression or anything. that can be said about a lot of things, like andesite, like different wood types. like different biomes. like emeralds, for the most part. like fishing. like minecarts. like dying wool. in a game that celebrates creativity, is it so wrong to have something exist just to be decoration? is it so wrong to have setpieces exist to be fawned over? i will admit i play a lot of modded minecraft, but barely ever do i want to "finish" it. sure ill run through progression trees in mods and sure ill get really strong, but most of my time is spent decorating, designing, hell last time i played i spent valuable resources literally beautifying a village i lived in because i thought it was fun, spreading all of my little crafting spots throughout so i could pretend i lived somewhere where all of these buildings served that purpose already. part of gameplay is imagination and it kinda sucks seeing so many people treat it solely as progression and completing tasks. when you reach the top, there's nowhere else to go. so why not find the slowest way up and enjoy the time you spend here? im sure its a million times better than whatever the hell you plan to do after beating the ender dragon in under an hour. the drawing is a small alien playing with toys. most of them are blocky, reminiscient of minecraft. he appears enamored with it and enjoying his time, even if he hasn't really started yet

i can see it being good. i want it to be good for the newheads to come in with some kind of appreciation for the series, but as it is now it's a little disheartening that it was disappointing. if they do get the go-ahead and make a full series, they **need** to redo that pilot

and they played their hand way way way too fast for the **PILOT**.
like they casually point a finger at something you're not supposed to notice until the FINALE, they reveal all the trolls when their reality is kept under lock and key for acts upon acts, they reveal everyone instead of the trickle

but a lot of the other choices were iffy. there was a lot of cursing for the first act, the entire pilot seemed hardpressed to shove the first act into 10 minutes whereas i could see them taking their time introducing the world a little more like in the comic and ending at the dad battle

i have some positives.
i think the voice cast was fun for the most part, i think the scene against dad was fun, i like the diagesis of adding the little panels as interactable bubbles for john + the narration being in-universe
