‘Things could go backwards’: Kezia Dugdale on safety, LGBTQ+ rights and the future of Stonewall Exclusive: Former Scottish Labour leader says she feels more scared as a lesbian today and calls for a kinder debate on transgender issues

It's true that Stonewall, attacked by the press, Charity Commission and the Right, came to the brink of collapse because it advocated for trans people. In the UK you can no longer do that work as a charity. But ceasing to be useful, genuflecting to hate, is not the answer. Better to cease to exist.

I speak to a lot of people about JK Rowling - many once close friends with her. I was once friends with her. And they all say she is now very changed.

To pretend she is not radicalised, to give succour to her views on trans people, is an astonishing thing for Kezia, as Chair of Stonewall, to do.

Today marks the 44th anniversary of the single most sanity-warping print error ever committed to print.

The gnawing, eldritch, Lovecraftian horror of this Peterborough Standard society page from April 18, 1980.

Theremony at tremony at the liremony indeed.

You do not need the robots to creatively prompt you! Just try to take the most violent bite of yourself possible. Try to swallow yourself whole

The NHS has now stopped all medication - puberty blockers and hormones - for trans minors. For most, unless they get drugs from other sources, this means a lifetime, in an increasingly violent and transphobic society, unable to pass. Under Wes Streeting NHS policy is harm and death for trans people.

The Poet Laureate of the UK is famous for his translation of St Gawain and the Green Knight, and Kym once got up on stage, looked him straight in the eye, and then performed this.

Unsurprisingly enough, every time they've encountered each other since, he's remembered them.

A large Regency house. Two sisters named Emilia and Charlotte talk on an upper floor.
"Mister Blackwell has come to call again." says Emilia as she looks out of the window "Oh, how I despise his uncouth manners and electric bicycle!"

Charlotte says "Sister, you will end up a spinster if you insist on a historically accurate suitor."
and continues "The romance novel has changed, Emilia, and so must we."

Emilia replies "Easy for you to say. You are engaged to the richest werewolf in the county!"

They are walking through the house.

Charlotte says "Look at Cousin Lucy: She is quite plain, yet made a most advantageous match with the dragon queen of nalthrax."

"True." says Emilia opening the door.

The tall, solid figure of Miuster Blackwell stands at the door wearing a top hat and tailcoat:
"Ladies, I triumphed In my ice hockey match and won ten thousand a year in sponsorship! Miss Emilia, will you be my bride?" he is holding a hockey stick.

Emilia swoons into Charlotte's arms.

New data shows surge in trans kids’ suicides following healthcare rollbacks | Good Law Project A freedom of information request by Good Law Project has found that deaths by suicide of trans young people under 18 surged following the withdrawal of gender-affirming healthcare

The number of trans youth suicides in the UK quadrupled in 2021 following significant restrictions in access to care. The NHS tried to cover this up with a fake report that tried to hide the truth.

The key point here is that NHS England is forcing conversion therapy on trans youth (and NHS Wales has no service for trans youth).

I've started printing portable water bottle based eye wash stations too (www.reddit.com/r/minnesota/...) in addition to whistles. I'll be bringing 10 to Strike ICE on Friday the 23rd for those who need.

Stanley Spencer painted about a dozen landscapes in and around Leonard Stanley in Gloucestershire during the early 1940s. The village, not far from Stroud, contains the remains of a Benedictine priory which lies at the foot of the Cotswold escarpment.

Two Palestine Action-linked hunger strikers taken to hospital MPs and next of kin of prisoners Amu Gib, 30, and Kamran Ahmed, 28, call for immediate government intervention

Their demands are reasonable, their treatment is disgraceful. The government's intransigence is killing the #PalestineAction hunger strikers. Just as its complicity has assisted the genocide in Gaza. It needs to wake up right now to the moral consequences.

Read some of the stuff written by Irish hunger strikers who survived. These people will suffer the impact of this on their bodies for the rest of their lives, if they survive and, at this point, that is getting increasingly unlikely.

It was the spring of 1990, A young man named David Kirby lay on a hospital bed in Columbus, Ohio, dying of a disease that had ravaged his body and torn its way through his community. A call goes out to one of the nurses in the hall, accompanied by a young journalism student and friend of both the nurse and the young man.
The journalism student waits outside, as the nurse helps the family to grieve and helps ease the man’s pain on what would be his last day on earth. But then, the door opens, and the journalist is invited in, to carry out the young man’s wishes and share what this disease had done with the world.

In November 1990, LIFE Magazine ran a now-legendary photograph of AIDS activist David Kirby’s last moments. Just out of frame was another eventual victim of AIDS, and the reason Therese Frare was in the room at all; Peta, a two-spirit caretaker with their own story to tell.

Note that equivalent men's and boys' organisations like the Scouts and the Men and Boys Coalition (for whatever criticisms you can make of them) aren't feeling compelled to expel trans men and boys. Weird how this is only effecting women's and girl's organisations.

Are trans people allowed to visit other people's houses at Xmas this year or does some randomer think that's an issue, too, so we're banned?

Women’s Institute will no longer accept trans women as members from April Exclusive: CEO says decision taken with ‘utmost regret and sadness’ after supreme court ruling on definition of a woman

Trans women has been welcomed at the Women's Institute since the 1970s and one member is in her 80's and has been a member for decades. This is pure bigotry pushed by legal threats backed monetarily by JK Rowling.
