Thank you for sharing. It‘s a well-written and comprehensive look at our predicament.

Whatever happened to that free market I keep hearing conservatives endlessly drone on about? Surely banning renewables goes against free market principles!
Aren’t we in the very upper bounds of the models’ predictions? How does one know we’re on the verge of peak emissions? Do you mean peak growth rates for emissions? Those are not the same thing.
I just can’t get over all the different ways this programming and conditioning comes at us. It’s almost impossible to avoid. I fell for the Orban and Meloni media messaging. They only tell the parts of the stories that they want you to hear.
Centrists aren’t likely to betray the system that benefits them even though it hurts so many others.
Thanks for reminding me to never believe the messaging that is being pushed in legacy media.
“some as big as softballs or baseballs, which shattered windshields, broke off chunks of siding on homes and broke off branches of freshly blooming trees. Tornado sirens blared across the neighborhoods, not because of an impending tornado, but due to hail so sizable it could injure anyone outside.”
But the Dems failed again without enough votes!!!! More than 80% wasn’t enough, so why spin this as progress?
The Keeling Curve.
None of this is news to those of us in the doomer community. We get to watch as more and more people try to come to terms with our predicament.
“Now, it looks like the new plan may be shelved, along with substantive discussion of the climate crisis.”
The IMF/World Bank’s handling of their “climate action plan” is showing yet again which climate-change-denying government has way too much sway over global affairs. 🇺🇸
Carrying on is all any of us can do. In the meantime, we get to watch the interesting ways that the non-doomer community tries to come to terms with our unfolding collapse.
“A Ricker logistic model fitted to the negative phase predicts that the global population could reach 11.7–12.4 billion people between 2067 and 2076”
New Study! Overshoot! Carrying Capacity! I feel like there's this special group of people who have been screaming about this for years.
“as early as Monday after strengthening to a super typhoon with winds as strong as150 mph”
Fellow U.S. citizens are in grave danger, but TRUMP! Keep them in your thoughts.
“Guam and the Mariana Islands are unincorporated U.S. territories and people born there are U.S. citizens.”
I’m going to look on the hopium side. It could have been 100,000x previous predictions. How lucky are we that it’s only 1000x.🤪
Who would’ve guessed Carbon Capture would fall out of favor? Newsflash: Big corps only care about profits.
“Microsoft, the largest corporate buyer of carbon removal credits, has paused new purchases of carbon dioxide removal credits, sending shockwaves through the emerging carbon removal market”
“Forests and peatlands store far more carbon per unit area than grasslands … smaller burned areas can release disproportionately large amounts.”
“wildfires are both a consequence and accelerating driver of climate change … not fully accounted for in national inventories or Paris Agreement”
“The study reveals that thawing permafrost can become 25 to 100 times more permeable, meaning gases can travel through it far more easily”
“If permeability rises dramatically, it may not only make it easier for greenhouse gases to escape – it could also change how radon moves through soil”
“By the end or middle of the century, maybe my children will not be able to experience the life that I have now”
Being a doomer is my superpower. Smug academics? Not even worthy adversaries. They don’t faze me anymore.
“I just think that enlightened self-interest based on scientific facts – which is what the commission is going to put forward – is a much more effective route to emission reductions than a legally binding agreement from which anybody can withdraw.”
This is magical thinking, and it won’t save us.
“Climate change in Antarctica is leading to changes in sea-ice that are projected to cause the emperor penguin population to halve by the 2080s, while reduced food availability has already driven a 50% reduction in the Antarctic fur seal population since 2000.”
NEW: Fifteen laws in 11 states that could immunize the fossil fuel industry from climate-related legal claims have either been passed or are being debated.
Many bills are part of a coordinated effort by groups linked to right-wing activist Leonard Leo.
I remember 2008. I was so hopeful & optimistic. I thought Obama would fix everything. That was one of the last times I allowed myself to be fooled by a politician. I was a public school teacher. With public education, Obama was a disappointment right out of the gate. It was just downhill from there.
We will destroy everything we can in orde to “save” the world!
“While terrestrial cobalt resources remain finite and geographically constrained, a transformative alternative lies beneath 4,000 meters of ocean water in the form of polymetallic nodules benefits scattered across abyssal plains.”
“very small portion of the plastic waste they burn is turned into an oily waste that can be fed back into the chemical production process or burned [as] dirty fuel. And it encourages unlimited production of single-use plastics”
🤭🤭🤭
I can’t stand it when someone gives someone shit for using the word “we.” Yes—we. We. We. We’re talking about species-level behavior here. Save your righteous indignation for the destruction humanity has unleashed on all living beings.
“overshoot has been hidden for decades by heavy reliance on fossil fuels, which boosted food production, energy supply, and industry, but also accelerated climate change and pollution.”
“ global population is likely to peak somewhere between 11.7 and 12.4 billion people by the late 2060s or 2070s”
