OpenDP is great, but the industry adoption is quite slow from what I’ve observed. On the other hand, power users of DP have their own in-house implementations that are often closed-source.

I recently audited one such major library and I was surprised to find how many vulnerabilities it had

I think utility always comes in the way of privacy

I've been working on Differential Privacy for a while now and I think that it is worthless.

Don't get me wrong. I love the mathematics that powers it. But ALL of the implementations I've come across has undeniable gaping flaws. We just can't seem to get it right and that is a big problem.

But which of the two sides weighs more?

1) many trained researchers have an increased productivity

2) a lot of untrained researchers produce “workslop” that trained researchers have to deal with

Announcing DP Wizard v0.5 Complementing the v0.14 release of the OpenDP Library, we'd also like to announce v0.5 of DP Wizard, a user interface that makes it easier to get started with differential privacy....

Nice! OpenDP's new release comes with a new version of their DP Wizard, a Python-based user interface that "makes it easier to get started with differential #privacy."

New feature: it includes "the new synthetic data generation functionality of OpenDP v0.14"

In my last year of PhD at NUS, Hades was my biggest stress release. I’ve beaten the game with 32 heat, and that probably says something 🙈

Similar energy:

Bohr was once writing a scientific paper – hesitating as was his habit.

Frustrated, he stopped and quipped: "I do not know how to finish this sentence."

Dirac replied: "I was taught at school that you should never start a sentence without knowing the end of it."
