I teach the EU. I have difficulty persuading students that bibliographies need to be in alphabetical order. I don't think I'll be very good at brainwashing them...

The proudest moment of my life post-PhD has been coming back to the PGR office after a long while and seeing that someone has updated the whiteboard.
What a great crowd to be anxious with for four years 🫶🏼
EXCLUSIVE: The strike that destroyed a school in Minab, Iran was larger than has been previously reported. A nearby clinic was also hit.
The evidence suggests a precision strike against an IRGC base that was adjacent to the school.

"After the attack they said 'let's make a deal,' more people should do that" might be the most disturbing thing Trump has ever said.
Think I'll block some time off this afternoon for, you know, screaming into the void.

In a twist that everyone could have predicted, me being in charge of this year's Christmas quiz means that some inspiration will be drawn from the 'wisdom' of the best dressed Bond.
'The problem is not just that Trump himself belittles intelligence. His administration is also creating conditions in which senior officials tailor their assessments to please him.' The standard of totalitarians. www.foreignaffairs.com/united-state...
Today I submitted my Mock Viva materials, then went and did some pottery in my weekly class.
My past self would not believe this day, and I think she'd be proud.

Cheers for a wonderfully stimulating workshop folks, and thanks Hager for organising.
The election of #KeirStarmer’s government in the UK and its commitment to reset relations with the EU has offered the CER opportunities to help reshape that relationship.

Standing up to the authoritarian wave requires more than cheerleading for democracy; it demands making democratic societies more participatory, responsive, and adaptable at all levels, from local to national, in response to the societal shifts driven by the Internet over the past 15 years.
It is, thanks! And very interesting finds that align with some of mine. e.g. security and defence cooperation not necessarily being the low-hanging fruit we expect; also, the govts' willingness seems not fully there yet with diff priorities and limitations. Fascinating work @nvondarza.bsky.social
Brian Driscoll, the acting director of the FBI, sporting curly hair, a kinda rakish jazz dirtbag moustache and beard combo, a faintly amused look in his eyes and a wry "whaddaya gonna do" smirk
I've got to say, the guy who accidentally became the Director of the FBI does 100% look like the guy who accidentally becomes the Director of the FBI in a mid-2000s comedy about a guy who accidentally becomes the Director of the FBI
In Brussels today for the #EUUK Forum Annual Conference.
With Starter's visit to Brussels yesterday and Brexit's 5 years anniversary last week, it's a stimulating time to reflect on the future of the relationship with representatives from industry and diplomacy.

Hi Jacob, if the list includes Brexit and UK foreign policy/security, I'd love to be considered too! Thank you for putting this together!

Hi Jamal! The workshop is organized by a European Security working group (but the geographic scope is not necessarily on Europe - we welcome studies on areas other than Europe!). So if your work is linked to security from an environmental perspective, do apply! And yes it's a great space for PhDs!
