Kermit Roosevelt (Teddy’s son, FDR’s cousin) & British Petroleum were instrumental in overthrowing Mossadegh/installing the Shah. Roosevelt/the CIA distrusted Mossadegh b/c he wouldn’t explicitly denounce the USSR; BP wanted Iran’s oil (they’d controlled the spigots before WWII disrupted things).

Back in the 90s, a weirdo in our firm was a Nixon apologist. Guy had a 3-ring binder FULL of letters from RMN, who evidently would correspond w/anybody who didn’t still hate him. On a first-name basis: “Hello, D*n. So good to hear you’re well…” Current pres. will have his (weirdo) apologists, too.

I’d propose a trade but I know I’ll get no takers.

TBH, if I was married to the Knoem, I’m sure I’d need some kind of distraction just to get through the week.

Went to a Denver Broncos training camp practice once & that’s exactly what it was like. The first three rows around the practice field were all oddsmakers and fantasy dorks w/iPads, angrily turning around to shush kids who were playing on the hill behind them. Garbage environment. Never going back.

Know how many times over the past 3 yrs I’ve been notified that there’s been a break-in at my bank, Dr’s, or a govt office & someone’s stolen my files? Zero. Number of online data breaches? Today makes thirty. Seriously, fuck your “online convenience”—I’ll fill out your paperwork when I get there.

Yeah, rural gas prices can be shocking. Back when gas was $1.15/gal., I recall rolling into Lee Vining, CA, w/a 1/4 tank to find $4.25/gal at the pump. I was young/dumb so I drove away w/o buying anything b/c eff that guy. Made it to Hawthorne, NV (at, like, $1.50) but those last 10 mi. were tense.

Painted from a couple of photos taken in the El Paso Mountains, Kern County, CA, sometime Dec-Feb 2001 (date approximate). A Great Depression-era cabin with corrugated tin sides in a snowy landscape with three Joshua trees. Not sure of my photos’ locale—maybe Colorado Canp or Dutch Camp.

High Desert Snowstorm with Joshua Trees, 10“ x 10“, acrylic on canvas. A few details + my limited (for me) palette. Happy w/the the lighter values on the Joshua trees in the background. Sometimes things turn out the way you intend. Based on a circa 2001 photo when I spent a winter working in SoCal.

Anyoneone else sick of Ai intruding on every single online activity? No, I don’t want Ai to re-write my email—I got it right the first time and anyway, you suck except as a way to assemble raw intelligence that has to be scrubbed for hallucinations and other fuckups.

Red and yellow grasses and plants in the foreground; the green, timbered lower slopes of Fools Peak reflected in Charles Lake (Holy Cross Wilderness, Eagle County, CO). The mountain’s gray bulk becomes blue & hazy as it rises against a sky dotted with umbral clouds.
