Marvellous artefact that formed part of the front of a canoe. Made of wood, the crocodile eyes are represented by fine china cups. Seen at the Museum of Anthropology in Cambridge. #happysaturday

This was so powerful - few of us can imagine the reality of having a family devastated by familial FTD - and the response of Jordan/Cian to their own risk is incredibly inspiring. Find them in instagram/TikTok as the FTD Brothers and follow their story…!

Yesterday’s Cambridge RNA Club was a blast! Despite a small crowd, we had great science, lively discussions and, of course… pizza! Quality over quantity, right? Huge thanks to @vanessaloi.bsky.social @soniagr.bsky.social & sponsors for making it a fantastic session! See you at the next one!

The magnificent Magna Carta, a royal charter of rights agreed to by King John of England on 15 June 1215. It limited the rights of the King by declaring him to be subject to the rule of law. It provided the foundation for individual rights. On display at the British Library #magnacarta

5) Overall, this in-depth characterisation of splicing accuracy can expand our understanding of the role of inaccuracies in ageing and neurodegenerative disorders.

4/ Key findings πŸ”‘ 3) We observe a genome-wide increase in splicing inaccuracies in samples affected with Alzheimer’s disease compared to neurologically normal individuals. 🧠

3) Key findings πŸ”‘ 2) We find that age is positively correlated with a global decline in splicing fidelity, mostly affecting genes implicated in neurodegenerative diseases. πŸ’†β€β™‚οΈ #ageing #splicingnoise #splicingaccuracy #neurodegeneration

2) Key findings πŸ”‘1) We show that splicing inaccuracies occur at different rates across introns and tissues and are affected by the abundance of core components of the spliceosome assembly and its regulators. #RNAbindingProteins #NMDpathway

1) MethodsπŸ“ We investigate splicing accuracy using short-read RNA-sequencing data from >14k control samples and 40 human body sites, focusing on split reads that partially map to known transcripts in the reference annotation.

#dinkydoors Miniature sculpture (with doors), lovingly made and hidden just out of plain sight around Cambridge. This one can be seen in Downing Street Cambridge, which mimicks the real and famous one in London. There are many of them, and they represent cute petite portals into other worlds :)

I can not comprehend the size and scale of the observable universe: roughly 2 trillion galaxies, ~400 billion stars per galaxy (considering the size of the Milky Way). This is just the piece we can observe given the speed of light (it takes over 100,000 years to cross our galaxy! 🀯

Amazed by evolution and the creatures that preceded us, this one is called Megaloceros giganteus (aka 'Giant Irish Elk'), although they were not elk but deer and not specifically Irish either as their fossil remains have been found in EU and Asia πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ but surely giantic (their antlers were 10ft wide!)🫣
