See, I didnāt charge my car on Solar PV yesterday and I exported it *all* to the grid š
(Clearly this isnāt *all* me, but like, this is mad to see how I nearly half filled an #EV in a day with such poor renewable generation to then have this the day after!)

Oh sorry, I put the car on Eco mode and added 40% to the tank from my solar PV on Monday. My bad, Iāll let it export to the grid next time and not leave us stuck⦠š
You should see Tuesdays data for when I didnāt charge the carā¦.
Delighted to lead the @ievasso.bsky.social committee for another year. We have a great group of people here, ones who I enjoy working on this quite a lot! While itās unpaid work, itās really rewarding to have a team like this to share ideas and plans with! To another year of #BEV growth #EVsky
And what happens if I sell the car then? Is it bricked to V2G use, and I just donāt tell the next person?? Is it scrapped as it doesnāt work for *all* uses it should then, as the value goes to near-zero for this?
EVs will be more valuable than just a vehicle with wheels, so this is, frankly weird!
But thatās not whatās been seen, so why set a limitā¦
I reckon if I had that in place here with my solar, I would hit that limit within 8 years of use. And thats with a 5kWh battery in my house already!
I can see why they might set a limit, itās a historical approach to batteries and protecting them so they last longer, but if Iām not mistaken, any trials so far on V2G havent shown additional battery degradation and might even be helped as the constant trickle charge in&out can help keep it healthy
āThe Irish government balked at introducing any such moderate, sensible energy-saving measures, presumably fearful of backlash from a public conditioned to believe that any sacrifice, no matter how small, is intolerableā.
My take is in @thejournal.ie today.
www.thejournal.ie/readme/carbo...
So they limit the kWh for the lifetime of the vehicle, or to a warranty period?
You donāt know how foolish Iāve felt by having *two* EVs outside the door the past while
āWeāve been sold a pupā as the saying goes š
Very cool to see this data outlined like this. This shows 102,425 EVs on our roads in IRL.
Good news is itās a reasonable bit higher again, including imports, and incl categories of Van, Trucks and Buses Iāve calculated that we sit at 125,891 passenger vehicles, and at 133,668 total #BEVs #EVSky
Not forgetting AVA design and their work in retrofitting Hiluxs for mining operations
All in to say, the solutions are there and coming from both existing/legacy manufacturers, but also are coming from new manufacturers (BYD would have a thing or two to say here). And/or to take existing vehicles that are incredibly expensive and *retrofit*
A) we have the cars, they are better to their ICE equivalents [IMO š]
B) while not new, Hibra Design in Cork are designing and retrofitting tractors and other heavy machinery
B-2) Volvo A30, a 270kWh dump truck with a 29,000kg load. These are the ones we see building our roads, so eh š¤·āāļø

The Strait of Hormuz crisis is doing something a decade of subsidies and mandates struggled to achieve:
making millions of people want an EV who previously discounted them.

Stellantis did the bare minimum to make an EV van, almost as bad a take as Mazda did with the MX-30
Thatās my car. Yes itās a box, 1.9m tall, 1.9m wide, 5.3m length and 2T before you put anyone or anything into it.
Itās also a factory conversion as I call it, a diesel van with the gubbins of an electric car put into it. No battery heating, only cooling. 25kWh/100km is actually quite good for this!
Stay doing what youāre doing once it makes you happy, but itās hard, itās definitely hard
Itās gotten very polarised, and content that doesnāt feed into that, just doesnāt go anywhere. From my own perspective, articles and pieces go further when itās picked up in a ācontroversyā and the amount of moderation required is then mental (aimed at FB groups mods there).
City v rural isnāt that far apart for use cases in many cases now (but 32kms rural is a bit far) and will get a lot closer in time. I agree it is tougher in that regard now!
Rural is caught due to availability now for those local villages and towns, I grew up in a rural setting. Both my dad and brothers are full EV. Semi-regularly loose power, and Iāve spent the last while getting my dads Solar & battery up to date for use in such cases.
Definitely an issue in that way where there is āsingle points of failureā with DC charging. Phase 3 grants aim to make this better with pools every 30kms, so more will be coming there. But we also had a number of stories of people who did charge then, and used V2L to run their & others homes.
My latest analysis of the #EV segments costs in Ireland, and how this compares to petrol and diesel.
This was planned for a while, as the same analysis was done ~12 months ago, but even more pertinent now to show how fuel pricing for EV is still cheaper, readily available and stable across the board
EV drivers on my local Facebook group now offering lifts to those without fuel who need to get to vital appointments. #fuelprotests #speirgorm
A stacked area chart of the electricity generation mix on the island of Ireland with the following fuel types: battery, biomass, waste-to-energy, hydro, solar, wind, oil, and gas. There is also a black line showing electricity demand. Footnote reads: All-island figures. Excludes rooftop solar. Source:Ā EirGrid, SEMO
Renewable generation and discharging storage equalled 56% of yesterday's electricity demand, with a peak of 84% at 15:15. Fossil fuel generation (mostly gas) equalled 33% of demand. 2% of generation was exported, 12% of demand was met by imports.
This is a very good take on the current situation of renewables and where we should be heading. This is the way!
Current approaches in IRL are not moving at this pace, it needs to be stepped up here.
Considering the current situation *gestures at this* we can clearly fund things when in a bit of a hurry, this should be treated the same.
Current green loans are low interest; they need to be 0.X%, not 3.X%+!
Wow, thatās phenomenal! #ArtemisII #SPLASHDOWN
I frickinā love the old school way of āhereās an album, go listen from start to finishā
Itās being almost being sold as ārevolutionaryā to do it this way. I donāt feel old, more angry that this is the case of modern music releases š«¤
And not releasing ANY singles prior to the album drop is just *chefs kiss* š
[The Plot In You have done the opposite with āVolumesā and will release an album with the best performing singles, or a compilation as Iāll be calling it] š
