WIBR Review #27: "Wastelands: The Parched Earth 1" by Samira Lloyd W. James Chan published a post on Ko-fi

Having read and reviewed a stellar debut novel by a fellow UoW creative writing alum, I am giving myself permission to read some tradpub for a bit -- sometimes an indie just sets the bar that high and you're not ready to be let down again.

Asimov first, "The Ninth" series by Muir after that. :)

Two page spread of the first issue of BLAME! by Tsutomu Nihei. A tall and short figure traverse an aged steel sci-fi bridge across a seemingly endless chasm with endless sci-fi ceiling above them. Manta Ray like figures fly off into the distance. The level of detail is bonkers

You can't keep raising prices while gutting value and expect a generation with less money and time than ever to make that kind of bad sacrifice. People are tired of being scammed. The experience offered is no longer worth venturing for.

Millionaire trophy hunter gored to death by 1.3 tonne bull on African safari Asher Watkins, 52, was tracking a 1.3 tonne Cape Buffalo bull, known as the Black Death, on Sunday when it suddenly charged at him at 35mph.

Ah that's lovely news.

I don't have the time

or the energy

to have a good cry

And I mean the

lips quivering,

face scrunching,

body shaking,

noise making sort

aka-

the ugly cry

Where your eyes

and cheeks burn,

the taste of salt

lingers on clammy skin,

the head throvs

with the efforts

of shedding grief

I could use

an ugly cry-

or three-

right now

I don't have the time or the energy to have a good cry And I mean the lips quivering, face scrunching, body shaking, noise making sort aka- the ugly cry Where your eyes and cheeks burn, the taste of salt lingers on clammy skin, the head throvs with the efforts of shedding grief I could use an ugly cry- or three- right now

But the tears never come

When I have the time,

if they ever come

at all

It's part of the curse

of growing up like I did,

crying was an inconvience,

a way to get attention-

or yelled at

Now,

I hardly cry at all,

not even when I'm alone,

in my room,

the way

I've always preferred

Instead,

I wax poetic

about my woes,

subjecting you

to my little sob story

On and on,

my inky tears flow

In the very way

I wished

my real ones would

But the tears never come When I have the time, if they ever come at all It's part of the curse of growing up like I did, crying was an inconvience, a way to get attention- or yelled at Now, I hardly cry at all, not even when I'm alone, in my room, the way I've always preferred Instead, I wax poetic about my woes, subjecting you to my little sob story On and on, my inky tears flow In the very way I wished my real ones would

Three books of different sizes, hand written by a small child, with drawings of cats. Colourful star stickers on the biggest one.

My daughter has been making little books, including The Adventures of Esther’s Cats, Why Cats Meow, and an untitled one about a dog, a cat, some snails, and a monster with 40 heads. When I told her that I liked them, she said that she would bury one with me in my grave!

Book promo post. Text says Cover Reveal. A 3D mock-up of a short story collection, Harvesting Moonshine & Other Stories, by M L D Curelas. The cover is teal and gold-toned. On the gold, right-hand side, a flying saucer soars over towering skyscrapers. The teal left-hand side lists a few stories collected in the the volume, finishing with the tag line ... and more! The cover is distressed and creased to give it a vintage, pulp feel. The background image is the same retro flying saucer hovering over the buildings, but now the colour is teal instead of gold.

Using the word "clean" in book marketing is far from the worst thing ever, it's just something I personally dislike. What do you think?

A shy store clerk. A plain Jane. A near-hermit. An unlikeable jerk. An ambitious perfectionist. Their common link? A new pill that promises lucid dreams, but delivers scary side effects. The line between dream and reality blurs as they discover its origin. #BluePit📖 #Q #SF

KPop Demon Hunters has provided me with at least two key tracks in one of the villain romances I'm writing, and for that alone I must watch it ten thousand times

Yes, it's easy. No, I will not stop drawing an 8 with a fancy sash

It's the prettiest 8 in the world and it just won a pageant. Show some respect

The paint that slipped onto the research; the photography, that lay underfoot on the studio floor that built up over time to create layers and new stories without a contrived shape. Francis Bacon called it ‘the compost’ - call it what you will, it has incredible value ... @intantainicus.bsky.social
