All 11.333.878 buildings in the Netherlands

12½ years ago, I made a map of all the buildings in the Netherlands. Unexpectedly, people loved it!
Ever since, I have been wanting to make an updated version of the map. Newer data, higher resolution, more interactive! I never got around to it, until last week: bertspaan.nl/buildings

What the United States Owns Interactive map of Federal Real Property Profile (FRPP) buildings across the United States.

Made some improvements this week to my map of United States real property (federal land, buildings and other fixed structures)
- new agencies and better geocoding, including USPS, TVA and State
- filter by property type (e.g. "parking structure") and year built
- where available, actual land areas

TASA(Taiwan Space Agency) has recently released five images captured by FORMOSAT-8. According to TASA, the image resolution met the originally designed 1m resolution. This is a great improvement over FORMOSAT-5’s 2m resolution images.

I recently nerd-sniped myself into thinking about political points of view on maps, and wondering whether it’d be possible to create OpenStreetMap-derived, Wikipedia-informed national borders on a Protomaps base map legal for educational use in countries in conflict.

Was looking at my cloudflare worker serving maps via pmtiles, saw there is a new dashboard on cloudflare with a map of request locations, poked around into how it works and indeed cloudflare themselves are serving their map via the pmtiles cloudflare worker

For those who couldn't catch our latest podcast live, here's the recording! Thank you @bdon.org for sharing your thoughts about all things cloud-native maps, and to everyone who tuned in live, especially those joining us from Norway and Egypt in the wee hours!

The Visual Display of Qualitative Information

I sometimes muse about the savage job-destroying nature of the open source community: hundreds of thousands of developers working tirelessly to unemploy as many of their peers as possible by giving away the code they've written for free.

tailscale is the game changer here, basically any task I would use a EC2 spot instance for I can do for "free" on a 64gb ram+ gamer box (CapEx vs. OpEx, etc)

limiting factor is fan noise
