The Cuomo era of tax breaks in exchange for jobs that never materialize is over!!! We live in the Hochul era of tax breaks for billionaires to build new stadiums with fewer seats and data centers that create one (1) job.

Just had to ask my mom for the thousandth time to please stop sending me local news reports about changes to student loans because if it's a good thing it doesn't apply to me and if it's a bad thing I already know.

This wouldn’t be a “compromise,” it’s be gutting the climate law, whose only major directive was to the governor to regulate by 2024.

Moving that date kills the subsequent lawsuit.

A new date won’t mean f all b/c Hochul won’t follow law, unless ordered!

These Legislators shouldn’t try to kid us.

and again, none of this is worth bringing up on your test run for president! it's so in the weeds and so irrelevant.

yes, exactly!!! the idea that people who mean well have different opinions on rhetorical choices, often rooted in having slightly different goals and audiences (ie. persuading the general public, mobilization, education, research) despite a shared overarching goal... is just not even considered.

"guy who doesn't vote for Beshear because he said justice-involved person" is just as fake as "guy who doesn't vote for Beshear because he refuses to say justice-involved person"

That's really the only way to put it. They suck and I'm tired of pretending the gloss they put on their complaints makes it worth catering to.

Beshear sure doesn't seem to mind taking the consultant line when it comes to Gaza! somehow that language isn't off-putting to normal people, unlike those (gendered, racialized) advocates!

and like frankly if you think advocates are sooOooo annoying I would love to know who you are turning to for expertise on the issues you want to campaign on. Or is the problem that you don't want expertise or to have to commit to real positions?

1 day ago 3 1 2 0

There are a lot of phrases that are common with advocates in my field that I don't use in public comms because I think they don't resonate with how people actually talk about child care. Sometimes people find me annoying for it! I'm not gonna take to New Hampshire to stump about it.

1 day ago 1 0 1 0

If you think it's annoying, you tell the advocates you're sorry but you're not going to say "justice-involved person" and they say "ok we wish you did" and everybody acts like an adult about it. You don't take it on a road trip across the country. Literally no one cares. It has no bearing on votes.

The thing about stumping for PRESIDENT on the complaint that the language advocates use is off-putting is that the audience is "guys who are in close proximity advocates or have to read their papers." So the Matt Yglesiases and right wing think tank guys and consultants and maybe some donors.

If you think something is not the best external comms as a politician, even if it's common in advocacy spaces, you can explain that to the advocates you have a relationship with and then use whatever you think works better when it comes up!

1 day ago 5 1 0 0

The reaction that no one has ever said this is pretty much equally useless as Beshear's point imo. People in advocacy spaces use a lot of imprecise/wordy language that sometimes ends up being confusing to the general public, largely to avoid being hurtful. This one isn't even confusing.

I am super uneasy about primaries not succeeding at surfacing enough of the right kind of candidate to avoid a repeat. Trying to be optimistic.

Yeah unfortunately hating Republicans is actually NOT good enough, as much as posters here want that to be the case. If we can't start restoring faith that government can do good things for ordinary people, just disliking Republicans isn't going to cut it.

Yeah totally, it all felt very bluesky brained. Empty vibes. Wanting there to be a good moderate so badly, often to the extent of ignoring the substance.

People projected a whole persona onto Spanberger that was never there. This was always how she was going to govern. "It's not left vs right, but fight vs fold" was always making up a centrist worth being excited for. None exists.

The Democrats sense that they're gonna cruise to midterm victory by doing nothing and offering nothing and are using it as a freebie to punch left to make sure the voters don't get any ideas.

Since 2016 people have been demanding that Democrats manifest a pan-ideological United Front coalition against Trumpism while refusing to grapple with the fact that vanishingly few conservatives have shown the slightest interest in such a project.

YEP. why do we have more heat for advocates for marginalized people than corporate lobbyists suddenly?

hint: people can tell when you're using language to talk around a lack of concrete policy positions they can hold you to
