Like if you mentioned "dissociated self states" to this psychiatrist, maybe they'd feign understanding and reduce it to the popular (and probably over/mis-used) idea of "alters," but I bet they wouldn't have a fucking clue about the conceptual richness of what you're referencing.

The problem, IMO, is that too many therapists (and the public in general) can only think/talk about dissociation through the lens of DID (or acute trauma). And the DSM's DID only covers a sliver of dissociative presentations, so we end up with psychiatrists making these dumb absolutist claims.

These arguments against universal programs are an argument FOR class-based segregation.

These arguments heighten class divisions; universal programs weaken class divisions. And many rich people are very invested in maintaining class divisions.
