Ah, but then dear old Morgan wasn't a pirate, no matter what the Spanish thought. He was a privateer, and it's an important distinction. Morgan was state-sanctioned in his slaving and plundering. So he had far less difficulty moving stolen goods because he could legitimately sell in any English port
And that's the point. It's all about where you can safely fence the hot property. A pirated cargo of slaves was a lot harder to move for profit than other forms of cargo.
Stede Bonnett was the equivalent of the modern rich white boy trying to to be gangsta and hang with the bad kids.
Edward Teach (Blackbeard)'s flagship was a French slaver he captured. He recruited some of the slaves and released the rest... although they were reportedly later recaptured by the French.
There are accounts of some pirates who, on finding that the ship they'd taken was a slave ship, simply sank it and killed all on board because they didn't want to deal with trying to sell slaves.
ehhhhh.... that's a bit of an overstatement.
Some pirates targeted slave ships. But I wouldn't even put them as a sizeable minority, let alone the majority. Cargoes like cotton, boxwood, coffee, spices... they were a lot easier to handle and offload for profit.
Why are we still in a place where it's only foreign media telling these stories?

The brother of federal Industry Minister, Mélanie Joly, is the president and CEO of Intelcom, a courier company that exploits subcontracted delivery drivers for pennies per package. It stands to benefit mightily from the dismantlement and privatization of public postal services in Canada.
The 21st Century needs this font.
Sure thing, Mark 👍🏻

"Unfortunately the Post Office came to be seen not as a system for moving the mail efficiently, to the benefit and profit of all, but as a money box. And so it collapsed, losing both mail and money. A lesson for us all, perhaps."
- 'Going Postal', by Terry Pratchett
Used to be a big Nick Cave fan. Seen him live a couple of times. But then he turned out to be a pro-Zionist asshole.
Isn't it weird, how it just hits out of the blue for no reason?
We went to NFLD years ago, and went out on a whale watching cruise, and suddenly *wham* here comes breakfast for a repeat performance.
I'd never had a problem before that, or since.
Invoking militarist nationalism.
Can we please just admit now that he's an ur-fascist?
Manufacturing consent for the privatization of Canadian health care.
... Who fix none of the systemic problems that inevitably led to where we are now, the fascism will be back. And the next fascist president will not be incompetent. And then we'll see that it can get much worse than Trump.
It's a bigger point than just the FBI.
The US - and the rest of the world - might just maybe survive this bout of fascism precisely because it is grossly, laughably incompetent.
But if Americans go on to elect another status quo establishment capitalist bootlicker Democrat government...
Just For Laughs is running ad posts for it constantly on Facebook. Whenever someone calls out Cleese's shit with comments, they hide the post and do a new one.
Interesting they're not posting ads for it here on Bluesky, where even more people are likely to call them out.
Washed up ex-Python John Cleese has been on a non-stop rabid racist anti-Islamic hate rant on Twitter for weeks. He's also a transphobe.
@justforlaughs.com is still bringing his 'I ran out of money and need some cash by riding on past glory' show to Canada.
Mamdani may not be perfect, but by the gods I think we're finally seeing a progressive leader who actually gets progressive shit done. @ndp.ca and @avilewis.ca take note. THIS is what we want to see.
At the same time, drones also offer a greater capacity to use pinpoint accuracy to affect or stop a moving force. To identify and hit just the right vehicles at just the right place to bog down a column on a road. To accurately target a force advancing behind a smokescreen, etc
I'm not sure that's the case. Drones have high mobility and ability to get up high to spot where the enemy is maneuvering. They don't have to wait until you're stopped in a trench line or defensive position. It's hard for artillery to track a fast moving enemy. Drones just spot you and come to you.
The morale impact has got to be significant, though. As a soldier, these things just drop out of the sky and chase you. Running doesn't matter. Cover doesn't matter. They'll chase you into buildings and bunkers and trenches, and around the wall or vehicle you're trying to shelter behind.
It's inefficient. As horrible as it is to say that about war. You see all the vids out of Ukr of them taking out individual soldiers with drones. It's like fighting a war almost entirely with snipers.
Sorry, apparently they're now saying 3.9
Ottawa valley just hit by a 3.4 quake.
A good time to recall how Stephen Harper once fired the head of the Nuclear Safety Commission for ordering that Chalk River been shut down until it installed backup power supplies for the cooling system... because the Ottawa Valley is an earthquake zone.
🤣🤣🤣
John Cleese has outed himself as a rabid Islamophobic bigot, making racist posts on Twitter on a pretty much daily basis.
So of course he's welcomed by Canada's largest comedy festival.
