I was living in Chapel Hill at the time, 1200 E. Franklin St., and I was working in the 'rhomboid-shaped' Blue Cross building on 15-501. Someone heard the news on the radio, and we didn't get much more work done that day...

So, for everyone who saw my flurry of Sinclair-related activity last night, I'd like to explain why.

Somehow, I've missed something on the news. Was there a 'prominent figure' health scare? What did I miss???

I've seen this a couple of times. Once, though, at the cruise-ending show, 'the most important person on this ship' was introduced - Washy-Washy Man. Hopefully the sincere round of applause softened the slightly degrading show he was asked to perform...

Not to nit-pick, but why didn't the water cover ALL of the floor before freezing? It it was fluid enough to fall and splash, why not spread?

He ended up in the South Pacific. (He was brushing his teeth when the bombs started falling, and his wristwatch fell from the sink and broke when it hit the floor. He kept that as a souvenir...)

My father-in-law was born eight years earlier, and saw the war coming. We have a letter he sent his sister explaining why he was enrolling early, saying he was sure war was coming, and would like to pick his branch. He chose Army, and was at Schofield Barracks on O'ahu on 12/7/41.

My Dad was still in high school, but enlisted after graduation (after 11th grade at the time). By then it was 1944 and they had a fighting army trained, so he went to Florida as a 'yeoman' in the navy, helping ship supplies around the world. Never went overseas.

But the opposite was also true. A 58-year-old friend of mine voted for the first time in 30+ years, just because NC was 'in play' and he couldn't stand the thought of Trump in office again.....
