I mean 5e is probably the most streamlined It's been but there's been attempts at making the armor system more straight forward, having stats be one set of numbers rather than weirdly 2. People then start their own systems to restore all the crunchy stuff like Pathfinder.

Anytime they try to streamline the system people complain. It ends up with massive bloat where the answer to a problem they caused is a monthly subscription.
I never finished Splatoon 3's single player. It felt like more of the same from the previous 2 games. But a game that does something different with the mechanic is a very fun idea.
