#TalkAboutHumanities
We need scholars across the humanities, because these are the fields where we study what it is to be human, to inhabit different identities, and to connect with each other, to be human together.

Emily Callaci’s Wages for Housework is a gorgeous history about imagining & fighting for a world beyond capitalism, where people are compensated for care work. “Less work in general; more time for living meaningful lives. Calling work what is work... to rediscover what is love.” I sobbed at the end.
a snippet of a mini-comic, at top - straight line stretches from point A to B. Immediately below, same dot at A, then becomes a curving, meandering line that winds through the page and ends at a point with rays and a question mark emanating from it. Text reads: "Nothing can do this for you - for that robs you of experience and conflates answers with learning. Rather, it's all the decisions you make along the way, the mistakes, struggles, and surprises! These pathways you create - this is learning.
and it occurs to me, if someone was willing to sponsor it, I would happily rework this into billboard format. Put it up in the midst of all these ridiculous ai product billboards!

“I’m interested in trying to make a case for feminists to think structurally about these major institutions of work, family, and prison…it’s shocking how unschooled we are in thinking at the level of social structures."

Faculty wages decreased and remain below pre-pandemic levels, AAUP's 2025-26 Faculty Compensation Survey confirms.
"Two steps forward, one step back. That's been the story for full-time faculty. For part-timers, it's been no steps forward at all. The AAUP data makes that undeniable."
SUNY Chancellor John B. King @sunychancellor.bsky.social announces SUNY's "absolute & unwavering commitment" to DEI: "Some are cowering & backing away. We cannot and will not. We will not retreat, we will not back down... DEI is in our DNA." Super grateful & proud to teach @ SUNY!
Just wait until these eyesore monstrosities want to come to your neighborhood. Goodbye trees. Expect to hear a constant, electrical humming, warmer temperatures and higher energy bills. Fight like hell to keep data centers out of your area.
My college is rolling out an AI buddy for students and I… want them to have real friends? I am still close friends with people I met in college. They changed my life for the better. They remind me of who I was. When I was great, when I was shitty. One night some of them saved my life.
It was windy 🤣🤣
Trump is flat wrong when he claims that birthright citizenship was intended only for the "babies of slaves." Martha Jones and I have the receipts.

Hoping @danicasavonick.bsky.social will repost and convince friends, colleagues, and students to let their state legislators know they want them to fight for the priorities laid out in this open letter. The time to get involved is now—and every day until we have an Enacted Budget. #PublicGoodU
I spoke w/ a reporter at The Guardian about AI & she used one of my quotes as the title of her article 😂.
Thanks to Alice Speri & @theguardian.com for covering our Sisyphean struggle.

I'm one of many professors quoted in this report from Alice Speri. I really appreciate The Guardian taking an angle which has basically eluded every other major outlet.
““It creates hours of additional labor ... And makes me feel like a cop” @danicasavonick.bsky.social holding a mirror up to my experience teaching and assessing in this AI hellscape.

Looks like a ship’s hold
I don't think it is only our job to teach students how to read long novels; it may also be our jobs to teach them how to live without an online surveillance state. To learn without intrusive apps. To swap notes. To write in a book's margins. To exist in their communities in slow, clunky, human ways.

“Defending the university is not about defending the institution itself, but rather understanding the institution as a condition of possibility for other things to emerge.“
