📸 Student leadership from our 2025-2026 funding program!
Taylor Skinner, pharmacist and MD student at UMemorial organised a deprescribing workshop for pre-clerkship med students! Final year pharm students co-developed and delivered the workshop, sharing insights from their own pharmacy practice.
Rose-Angèle was taking 30 medications. With the help of her healthcare provider, she was able to deprescribe medications that were unnecessary or causing too many side effects.
Today, she takes 12 fewer medications.

Guidelines recommend:
1. regular med reviews for older adults taking any number of meds, and
2. government funding to encourage & support this process in primary care.

Last week, CADeN assistant director presented on med. safety in collaboration with Centre Déclic, a Quebec organisation focussed on scientific knowledge translation for lay audiences. Communicating health concepts in lay terms allowed for great engagement and many follow-up question from attendees!

💡 New data from CIHI shows inappropriate antipsychotic use in long-term care remains high: nearly 1 in 4 residents in Canada receive them without a psychosis diagnosis. Reducing to the 15% national target will take time and greater support for LTC staff.
