I don’t think I’d put him at GOAT level, but Beck is that same kind of five tool player. Or, in this case, four tool

The Mango Mussolini?

I think an end in line with his nick-namesake would be quite befitting

Was the end of marathons for me.

Still have my two Boston Marathon blankets though.

Anyway, that’s for sharing in one of the 15-20 moments that I’ve ever felt good about myself

I finished that 2nd one & sat on a curb & cried for 5 minutes. It really sucked. But, this time I got to let my family know I was running, so they came down. Took me so long that they went to the Sox game & still had plenty of time to make it to the finish. But that race kicked my ass & that

PS. I trained & ran the next year. It got warm that day, I remember getting tunnel vision at points, really struggled, but a friend jumped in with me for about a half mile towards the end that really gave me a 10th wind. And Trenchtown Rock provided the soundtrack, in my head, for those last few

So, there I was, April 20th, 1998. Finished in 4:35 ish (nothing to brag about) but, subtracting the time it took to reach the start & the bathroom breaks, I figure I ran it right around 4 hrs, 20 min, which added to my grin.

Pretty much been all downhill since then, but I had that day.

You fucking cross that finish line and it’s all worth it.

Holy shit, I felt like I could punch a hole through the sky. They hand you that thermal blanket and you wear it like a cape, because you feel like a superhero. And, for that moment you kind of are.

And there it is, that glorious fucking finish line! I put everything I had left into that last stretch. Which, if you were measuring me with a the most precise of instrumentation, no discernible difference in speed could be detected, but I could feel it. And then….then… +

Chestnut Hill and then you get to go down hill and all the Boston colleges show up, absolutely juicing you right when you need it. And yeah, there are ridiculous amounts of people cheering you on the whole way, but from this point on it’s bonkers. Then you take that last left onto Boylston +

Stress fracture in my foot around mile 10, eating numerous fucking energy gels that I stuffed in my pockets, many cheers for my “I Love Leonardo” shirt (it was right after titanic), a few bathroom breaks, heartbreak hill and separating from my friends (who had all trained) you hit that stretch into+

To lose. If I didn’t finish, it’s not like anyone was going to say boo about it. My friends dad, who drove us down from UVM, gave me $10 in case I needed to hop on the T or a bus….but, I really needed a win, at a very down time for me, and there was no way I wasn’t finishing. So, after sustaining a+

Mind you, I had not prepared for this adventure in any way, whatsoever. I had eaten a full breakfast of pancakes & sausages. I had not “evacuated” that morning and there was no time now (would hit up the port-o-potties a couple times along the route). All I knew is I was 20, stupid, and had nothing+

And how good it felt after you finished…and boy, did I need something to feel good about…So I said “does anyone have any sneakers and shorts that I can borrow?” And with about a half hour before start, I slipped on some shorts & sneakers that fit amazingly well & we headed to the start.+

28 yrs ago today, I went to watch my friends run in the Boston Marathon. As we were sitting at this one guy’s house, in Hopkinton, and every one is talking about how exciting it is at the start & when you get to the end, even if you’re a bandit, you get treated like you just ran a marathon+

The other night I saw Joe Walsh drinking a Pina Colada at Trader Vic’s.

His hair was….well, the dude has some age on him, we’ll leave it at that
