There is no world in which this creates more jobs for artists. We were already struggling to survive before large companies felt that they could replace us with a tool. I will accept a "lowered efficiency" creating art if it means authenticity and true expression of ideas.

However, the kind of AI that Price seems to be advocating for literally generates pixels to create compositions for you and generates detailed meshes (probably with terrible topology) based some vague prompts/images you throw at it. 3D artists have already lost jobs from this.
This is something I spoke about in my video about DLSS 5, but part of the point of art is that is an expression of human emotion/experience. I can understand people using some form of AI in the process but the more we accept/celebrate it the less society will value human artists.
A screenshot of "Grummz" supporting Andrew Price for his views on the use of AI in 3D art and Price responding, "Thanks man. I really appreciate the support".
I used to look up to Andrew Price & he was a big reason that I was able to learn 3D art for my games. He even critiqued some of my early works on his review show long before the donut tutorial. To see that he has fallen this far and associated with a known bigot is disappointing.
There's a few days left to get my action game Iron Reckoning⚔️ on sale for 60% off! While it's an older title of mine, it features a pretty unique combat mechanic with a more serious tone in story/music, so do check it out!😎 #gamedev #indiegame #indiedev

NVidia's DLSS 5 announcement stirred up a lot of reactions already, but I thought my perspective as a developer might be interesting... so I uploaded a video explaining why I think it's a disaster for the future of the industry! 😅

We have a new release date for Case 6! Here's the trailer www.youtube.com/watch?v=-648...
It was my birthday on Monday, but all my birthday money got eaten by car repairs yesterday.
A little treat would mean a LOT right about now lol

... The first one's less than $200, so if yall are willing to split the $200 across two things...

An absolutely glammed up and yassified chad Conrad Cross on the right side with the tag "DLSS 5 On" alongside a boring, vanilla, "artistically ethical" Conrad Cross on the left side with the tag "DLSS 5 Off."
the next burden of proof patch update drops today, hope u guys like conrad's new look 🚀

A crowd of No Kings protestors holding signs.
The U.S. flag at half-staff next to a crowd of No Kings protestors.
Today I attended my first protest here in NJ because the racist, bigoted administration destroying our country needs to understand that this is what democracy looks like. Protect the LGBTQ+ community. Abolish ICE. Justice for Alex Pretti and Renée Good. #nokings #protest #justice
I experimented with ~10 different replacement cloud techniques, from GPU simulated particles all the way to my own volumetric shader. Nothing was working out and I didn't have the bandwidth to really invest time in it. All of that just to wrap back around to my starting idea lol
A test level showing a custom water surface shader sorted properly behind Unity's volumetric cloud system.
Though it might sound like a small win, I was actually stuck on this problem for over a month and thought it might ruin the project. After discovering a material setting I missed, I can now sort transparent objects behind Unity's volumetric cloud system 😅 #graphics #gamedev #indiedev #indiegame
Burden of Truth⚖️ is on sale for 20% off during the #SteamSpringSale so now is an excellent time to try it out if you're a fan of Ace Attorney-likes & courtroom puzzles! I love hearing about new players' experiences with the game :D #gamedev #indiedev #indiegame

So THAT's where my spoons went 🤔
Yesterday the temperature was nearly 80 degrees and today it's snowing but some people still refuse to believe climate change is affecting the weather
I've been head down for a bit in underlying systems & tech for visuals (building a cloud system has been ruining me...) so I haven't been able to share much, so I appreciate your patience as I slowly get back on my feet. Hoping the effort will pay off for this new game 🫡
A vast open WIP level featuring a lake with tesselated waves made in shader graph and blockout level features and terrain in the background.
I'm still working through a lot of stuff in gamedev & life but I'm now getting a bit back on track in terms of regular development progress and not feeling quite as stuck. In the meantime check out the water I made using a StackLit shader graph material! #gamedev #indiedev #3dart #indiegame #shader
My courtroom puzzle game Burden of Truth⚖️ is on sale until March 8th, so now is a great time to solve some mysteries! Huge thanks to everyone playing, and remember to leave a review if you enjoyed the game!! ❤️

I apologize for the long rant, but I'm running out of places to turn and everything seems so unreasonably horrible and I don't know what else to do. I'm not sure what comes next for my project but right now I'm feeling immensely unstable financially/mentally and there's no solution in sight.
Knowing that this game will take so long to finish is crushing my spirits, especially since I have no idea if people will like it or if it will sell well. And it's so frustrating that I have to think like that because of the country's economy and all of the budget cuts from this administration.
I don't want to sound too negative but it's hard to be hopeful when I feel so stuck in my career. I've been making games consistently for over 10 years and I'm still not able to sustain myself with it. The job market is flooded with scams, misleading offers, and AI training garbage.
But that seems to be off the table as well with the tech industry falling further into chaos and unemployment numbers rising to insane heights. All of my applications have gotten me nowhere and I've been losing hope for many months. Now I feel at like I'm at my breaking point :/
One solution that could improve all of this is to find work so that I'm no longer pressured financially and can potentially take the time I need to figure some of this stuff out. But it's not ideal either since it means less time developing and longer waits until release.
The only other thing I could do is switch projects to something faster but I'm very reluctant to go that route. After all, most of my other ideas might take just as long to work through and appeal to a smaller audience. I don't want to worry about money but I have to at this stage.
And top of all of that it's impossible to accept certain compromises in the game/visuals when I'm trying to grow as an artist and make something that will appeal to players. I don't know if I have the time or funds to aim lower on it.
Though it may not actually be true, it at least feels like my productivity is decreasing with each day and not getting enough done. I have a terrible relationship with work these days and not doing enough makes me feel awful and doing too much burns me out. I can never find the right balance.
The terrain system is one example of that. Though I'm proud of it & glad I made it, it really took a toll on me focusing so much on it when the system feels so far away from the actual game. Now I'm finding I may have to replace (i.e. write my own) several massive tools I thought would be fine.
Sorry for the lack of updates recently. To be honest I've been feeling increasingly overwhelmed, anxious, and miserable as I continue getting stuck in development topics for my next game that I'm not sure I can pull off in any reasonable time.
This is somehow more meta than some of my games, I'm shocked
