My friend @pheanox.bsky.social is running several games on startplaying right now. Get into some! startplaying.games/gm/pheanox

Well, I’m definitely downloading your character sheets for it.
I might bring the delve to an adult pick-up game soon but I don’t know if I’ll get it to one of my regular groups.
I decided the Chocolatier was really a mechanical costume with a goblin inside. For whatever reason, they wanted to adopt it. So that was awesome.
In the end, they rescued all the merfolk imprisoned by the Chocolatier while splitting the party real bad. One faction confronted the Chocolatier and with some lucky hits, knocked her out. When they suggested something really violent…
…a dungeon full of chocolate monsters really brings out the latent murder-clown in kids. A lot of “I chop its head off and drink the chocolate dripping out.”

Ran the kids at the library through OSE Quick Delve #1: Milk.
They were side-eyeing me at the start because they’d been fighting demons a week before with another DM and the threat of “someone is making sub-par truffles” didn’t really ignite their passion. However…
I played through the Basic D&D intro adventure to see if it teaches me better as an adult than it did when I was young. Spoiler alert: Aleena didn’t make it.

Yup 👇
The richest man owns X.
The second and third richest men control Google.
The fourth richest man owns Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.
The fifth richest man owns The Washington Post.
And now the sixth richest could soon take over both Paramount and Warner Bros.
See the problem here?
Considering whether Holy Mountain Shaker for OSE stays on my shelf.

Later tonight.
A new recruit and a new plan of attack in this session of the Gunderholfen saga.

100% this
Ok…but just to clarify, there’s not a Cycle of the Snake-Wolf 1 or 2? or a Return to the Shattered Woods 1? The completionist in me is having a panic attack.
Looking at Dark Matter for 5e from @magehandpress.bsky.social today on my RPG Bookshelf.

Oh wow! Thank you! I know several of these shows but didn’t know they had an association of solo rpg’ers. Very cool. And thanks for the introduction. I’ll reach out.
My table played Halls of the Blood King in one five hour session using Into the Odd and its setting. It was pretty great. We also played Goblin with a Ray Gun but it was a little wobbly.
I make videos about playing solo with OSE: youtube.com/playlist?lis...
And I made these tracking sheets for my solo game: everweird.itch.io/dungeoneerin...
I hope that’s helpful.
For book reviews, I listen to @stuhorvath.com.
And for old school adventure reviews, I listen to the GOATs: @yochaigal.bsky.social @bradkerr.net @betterlegends.bsky.social on Between Two Cairns.
I listened/watched a lot of Mythic Mountains Folk Tabletop to get a feel for old school D&D and megadungeons.
Thank you! Great question! I’ve never thought about my OSR podroll. @3d6downtheline.com obvs. Mystery Quest, while not old school specific, plays OSR/NSR games. Same with Adventures in Lollygagging (not sure of an official account; here’s @melazera.bsky.social).
I haven’t gotten into a years-long Borg campaign but I’ve definitely run mini-campaigns and can attest: it absolutely works. The world in the book is so minimal but really well tied together. It’s easy to follow the survival story of a small party in Tveland.
I didn’t expect to love Mork Manual as much as I do but it’s pretty great. It’s a take on “classic fantasy” but everything in it is twisted a bit in the Mörk Borg style.
Part 2 of my solo delve through The Grotesques’ Grotto is up. #osr #solodnd #oldschoolessentials

Oh yes. Because I forget I have other soshy meeds and don’t tell people when I do stuff, I’m many days late telling you I’m playing OSE Quick Delve #2: The Grotesque’s Grotto solo on the YouTube. youtu.be/1ASO5-pssn0?...

To tack on here (though Seth covers it as an exception in a subsequent post), milestone leveling is the reward mechanic in D&D 5e. Hence, exploration and engagement outside of the perceived plot is disincentivized.
Today I look at Halls of the Blood King for my rpg bookshelf. #osr #oldschoolessentials #bxdnd #dnd
