Word of the week: Plangent.
Definition: (of a sound) loud and resonant, with a mournful tone.
One of those words you never use in everyday life and learn from some random book you read. Sounds a bit too much like the word "Pungent" to me though, don't think I'll ever use it 😂

The Savage Aether / The Disconnected Henry Neilsen's new Cyberpunk horror novel and its companion anthology, featuring a range of exciting voices of near-future horror.

Up next is the Savage Aether by @henryneilsen.bsky.social, which will be my first sci-fi book this year (though still an Indie one, of course😇). It was recently released along with a companion anthology, The Disconnected, both of which were quite successfully Kickstarted, if you want to check it out

I'm now reading The Godsblood Tragedy by @williamjadams3.bsky.social and will also review that eventually. So far it has given me a lot of Dune, Cosmere, and most of all Mortal Engines vibes, and has more sci-fi elements than I'd expected. Oh yes, and (hob)goblins!

Just got through my second indie book of the year, Let Sleeping Gods Lie by @benschenkman.bsky.social, which was a fun story based on indigenous American myths. It was mostly based on legends from the Quinnipiac people (love that name btw!) with a great magic system built around the spirit world.

Hey everyone! Today I'm reviewing the first Indie book I've read this year, as part of my attempt to read as many indie books as possible.

Far Removed by @cblansdell.bsky.social is a science-fiction/fantasy book set on the aquatic moon of Knyadrea. It is also an entrant to spfbo11!

All my books are briefly 50% off on the @smashwords.bsky.social until the seventh of February! Read an eBook Week (RAEB) is a great opportunity to get ebooks for a lower price, so check if your favourite author is on Smashwords and you might get lucky.

There might have been democracy in Iran if the CIA hadn't intervened in the 80's. The US has been unofficially at war with Iran like forever (and a lot of other countries). Regardless, I hope the common people are all right!

Since we're all divesting from our billionaire overlords... what a great time to switch from Goodreads to indie-owned (+ much cuter, cooler, social) Pagebound?

Hi #booksky 👋 we're Pagebound, a new social reading site (think: if Goodreads and Reddit had a baby). Come read with us !

Word of the Week: Anachronism

Definition: something that exists out of its time in history, especially if it happens or exists later than the period being discussed (Merriam Webster)

Not to be confused with arachnophobia btw. Makes you wonder, could time travellers have an anachrophobia 🤔🤔

This art features 100 bees of various colors and shapes.
These bees are designed in a cartoonish style, based on real species. The common name or species is written below the animals.
Some bees are moving leaves, scraping plant hair, or sticking out their tongues. Some male bees have hairy faces and unusually shaped legs. There are also baby bees that have just hatched from their petal nests. Cute and colorful atmosphere. There are over 20,000 species of bees, so I only depicted a very small fraction of them!
