As I've gotten older, I have not turned into a clone of either parent. But I have somehow developed the need for mango. This fruit downright enlightens people when it's done right. Get you an Alphonso mango cheese cake or eat the fruit over the sink as the gods intended - joy will find you.

Us South Asian kids didn't eat many of these growing up because once you've had South Asian mango, North American mango generally don't do it for you as a pure eating fruit. But... thanks to modern technology, we can get these South Asian mango in the US if we know the right people or buy online.

Long ago, during this time of year, my father would regularly bring a box of mango home and be the one primarily eating them throughout the week. This is also combined with the tradition of having fruit flies round this time of the year because we didn't put these in the fridge.
