If you’re around Portland come hang out with us on Thursday to talk about the evolution of policing and how progressive politics sometimes acts as a cover for law enforcement violence, and how we can erode police power in every neighborhood. But like optimistic and happy, not depressed

Counterpoint: I use em dashes with abandon and will not let "AI" steal them from me. I was overusing them first and will continue to do so long after "AI" is a crater in our financial system, or our merciless overlords, or both
"Pancreatic cancer mRNA vaccine shows lasting results in an early trial: Scientists caution that more research is needed, but nearly all of the patients who responded to the personalized vaccine are still alive six years later."
Portland: A Central Catholic baseball player used a racist slur before two varsity games this month, leading the team to forfeit two later games and the school to shift all students to two days of online learning, officials said. www.oregonlive.com/education/20...
I’m struggling right now, y’all.
I’m honestly uncomfortable asking for material assistance here.
But I do need some financial help as we’re dealing with sick & inured doggos + behavior problems & unexpected financial gut punches lately.

Major military contractor and surveillance giant Palantir has posted a chilling manifesto that calls for tech companies to play a larger role in a dystopian future where imperialist powers are unleashed and Americans are increasingly subject to the whims of the surveillance state.
I don't recall any previous transformative technologies that had to be sold to the public so hard. No one in 1999 was going, "Guys. Cell phone? It's coming, whether we like it or not. I think it's important, FOR WOMEN ESPECIALLY, to learn about cell phone. So that we're not left behind!!"
Latest episode out now! Ft. @matiangai.bsky.social discussing how the interests of whiteness have often dominated global public health policy and how the long shadow of medical colonialism shows up today.

Lindsay Gregg, who managed women's basketball endorsements, claims she was fired after reporting unsafe treatment of female athletes at NBA All-Star weekend in February 2026.
FYI: Oregon.
Google has opened at least six data centers in this Oregon district. They consumed 550 million gallon of water in The Dalles last year. That is 40% of the water usage. Three candidates running in the district discuss why only one of them were endorsed by unions. 🧵

Olivia has been detained for months at the sprawling Dilley center in Texas. She has lost 20lb, and wakes up every day with a headache
Using the r-word is just bad. Democrats should have higher standards for themselves than Trump when it comes to using a slur that MANY disabled people find offensive. Looking at you, Graham Platner. New from me at @motherjones.com. www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

Health officials say people at Centennial Middle School on multiple days in early April may have been exposed.
C SPAN CSPAN @cspan •13m Lonna Drewes on Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA): "I had contact with Eric Swalwell on three separate occasions. On the third occasion I believe he drugged my drink...he raped me and he choked me...I did not consent to any sexual activity.../ have never doubted what happened. I stand with the other women who have come forward and I will be making a report to law enforcement shortly with my attorneys." Full video here: c-span.org/event/ news-con... KCAL/KCBS 5:10 C-SPAN
The testimony being given at a press conference by one of the women accusing Swalwell of sexual misconduct is bad.
She says he drugged her drink (one glass of wine), had her accompany him to his hotel room to get paperwork for a business event they were going to, and then raped and strangled her.
Idaho has the worst vaccination coverage in the United States due to their pathetic vaccine exemption policy, and someone with measles just rolled through the Boise airport.
I won’t ask what could possibly go wrong because we already know.

Just a heads up...
Venus goes into sidereal Taurus April 19. The state is going to push back hard. If you didn't know that we're in a class war you're about to find out. These warehouse fires etc... yeah the police state is about to go super fascist.
My Western Edge co-founder @leahsottile.bsky.social obtained the 911 calls related to this death. A worker who called for an ambulance described a man who was bleeding from some type of headwound and was blue in the face while some employees were told to keep working.
what actually makes a community safe are better economic conditions, walkable cities, properly funded schools, a robust social safety net, even properly funded libraries! ever dollar poured into the police is a dollar that could be better used just paying people and bettering lives.
The country's descent into fascism cannot be understood without interrogating U.S. policing. But folks across the political spectrum are allergic to this so here we are.
Comments left on the OLEO survey of KCSO actions in relation to ICE.
KING COUNTY RESIDENTS:
OLEO (Office of Law Enforcement Oversight) is doing a survey to hear the King County communities experiences, priorities, and recommendations in regards to ICE
I think the comments are more important, and had a lot to say about this issue

Big news for everyone who believes the public should know what their government is doing: The only bill Gov. Tina Kotek is considering vetoing this year is the bipartisan effort to gut public meetings law despite opposition from journalists and warnings from the state ethics commission.
For more than a week, Amazon has managed to keep a death at its Troutdale, Oregon, facility out of public view.
Workers I spoke to are pissed.
It's so troubling to hear medical professionals say things so matter-of-factly like this. Because people believe them, and go out in the world and continue to infect others, thinking they can't!
A Covid test with a very bright red positive line, which can indicate high viral load
