If I recall correctly there was a collab starting in the early 2000s where one tech giant offered to digitise collections as a service - a way of allowing libraries to make their collections more accessible for research. Highly doubtful that terms included permission for current uses.

Wikipedia Bans AI-Generated Content “In recent months, more and more administrative reports centered on LLM-related issues, and editors were being overwhelmed.”

after much deliberation and giving AI the benefit of the doubt, Wikipedia editors have had enough of AI slop. New policy bans LLM generated content, periodt www.404media.co/wikipedia-ba...

Ooh interesting question! Maybe it differs between regular imagery and hyperphantasia? But your hyperphants may well imagine it anyway 🤣

I started using a different formulation for thought experiment questions recently. Perhaps it’s less jarring for some?

Old: “imagine X”
New: “scenario. X”

I did get there after re-reading the title a few times - just one of those classic trip-ups for a psycholinguist 🤓

I’m excited to read the whole paper - have some data that may be *pertinent*!

Ngl I got confused for a moment there about whether this paper was, itself, talking about reflexives 🤣

Oh good grief - lie detectors again? Polygraph ONLY EVER detected stress, You can duke them by a. Being stressed for every question or b. Not being stressed even when lying.

We have all heard of ACTORS, yes? Professional liars. Mostly not stressed about it.

ML won’t save us from human deception🤦🏻‍♀️

All stars are welcome - shape and astronomical! The real Q is how vivid is it? And did you add anything hint beyond the prompt (star+red) :)

Goldman Sachs reports that 300 million full-time jobs could be replaced by AI by 2030. Labor turnover is high and hiring has slowed. 71% of Americans worry that AI will cause permanent job loss. As young people about to enter the workforce for the first time, the fear of unemployment is understandable, but we cannot save ourselves with the very tool that is putting us at risk.

The irony is that as Penn pours endless money and energy into AI advancement in its attempt to get ahead, the University is only quickening its own demise. AI cannot coexist with education — it can only degrade it. As technology advances and workers are replaced by machines, schools are some of the only places we have left to explore and wrestle with human thought. With our own university leading the charge, AI is now corrupting those few sacred spaces and leaving us with nowhere to engage in true scholarship.

Editorials represent the majority view of members of The Daily Pennsylvanian Editorial Board who meet regularly to discuss issues relevant to the Penn community. An unaccounted for part of the economy is how much young people virulently hate AI, despite how aggressively it's being forced on them. They realize it's making their friends dumber and ruining the world and they want nothing to do with it.

Taking linguistic/grammatical diversity in the world's languages 🌏 serious is important because a too narrow perspective on how language works (in the brain), based on a few and in the grand scheme quite similar languages — English, German, Dutch, … — will miss a big part of the picture. 🖼️ 🧵4/

Issue 6: If an input violates the terms or acceptable uses, the user is solely liable. However, if an output violates the terms, the user is still solely liable! Apparently the provider can never be at fault. Even when they use automated black box filtering/detection invisible to users.

Google Search is now using AI to replace headlines Let us know if you see more.

I appreciate @seanhollister.bsky.social 's reporting here about the latest step Google is taking in their quest to destroy the information ecosystem and disempower information seekers:

It can be tough - “design an experiment” has a long tradition in the sciences. A subset of our students believe in the myth of their own genius and want to prove they can do it right away. But they often don’t have the skills yet, and don’t want to spend time acquiring them. Some complain heartily 👻

Yes yes! I try to be transparent, but it often involves some light misdirection.

Elite students who are used to getting away with low-effort last-minute work often HATE IT, because they can spot work without shortcuts a mile away… But it works SUPER WELL, and the vast majority are in favour!

Ah - Star (shape) and Star (astronomical) are both welcome here!

The main point of the Q is about the vividness of your imagery (or none) and whether you added details beyond star+red :)

What I like here is that the solution comes from the students themselves "multiple low-stakes attempts rather than single high-pressure performances, conversations rather than presentations, uncapped formative practice that builds confidence, and peer explanation normalised as a routine activity"

I really liked the purple ones, but hurried when adding some less sassy ones (hence the repeat). Forgot to check whether I pasted them all correctly :)

Ha! They are a bit similar because I picked the ones that talked most concretely about critical thinking rather than other stuff like group interaction.

It is entirely possible that students asked their bot-friends to write answers for them 😭 but it was optional, and the full set was quite diverse!
