could you imagine how great a Claudia Winkleman commentary version of the series would be, her sitting there with a barrel of wine, laying into what’s going on.

Travels with Anthony Bourdain Tony will be remembered for his infectious enthusiasms and his brash exuberance, but I was most inspired by his capacity for reinvention.

“Bourdain freely acknowledged that part of the reason he continued to work at such a frantic pace might have been a fear about where his mind might go if he ever sat still,” Patrick Radden Keefe wrote, in 2018.

Why is my Bluesky feed suddenly riddled with bizarre smut? Particularly since I *haven’t* completed age verification 🤷‍♀️

There’s a few reasonable theories

Ok - It appears the crimes excluded are those where the populations are harder/more complicated to survey.

So it’s a fair point to say the survey has limitations but I think a clear trend is still very obvious and arguing the survey doesn’t reflect reality is a bit of a stretch.

The graph isn’t reliant on police data/reported crime. The ONS data is based on asking the population if they have seen/experienced crime.

Really good news introduced by a Labour government. I had to really hunt to find it.

Allen Carr’s CBT book is super helpful if you haven’t read it.

Lots of people report little/no cravings after essentially re-wiring the thought process

broad-tailed hummingbirds built a nest atop a tea light on a friend's front porch. one bird fledged yesterday, and one kiddo (who I saw flying, too) was hanging around for more food from mom #birds

Photo of the screen of a parking validation machine that says "please pay displayed amount: five dollars", and underneath that, "change is possible."

I appreciate the optimism of this parking validation machine

Two scatterplots side by side. The chart on the left shows the relationship - or - rather - the lack thereof - between the number of A&E attendances per day and each day's four-hour compliance. The chart on the right shows the (quite strong) relationship between the level of crowding in the A&E each day and each day's four-hour compliance.

It was good to see @samfr.bsky.social say today that "the main reason for lengthy A&E waiting times is the lack of hospital beds for people who need admitting, which gums up the whole system as they have to keep being treated by emergency staff."

Allowing assisted dying while savagely cutting PIP is telling disabled people they're allowed to die with dignity but not to live with dignity

I’m really worried about the future with this. Particularly looking at case studies from around the world.

When the health service, social care & welfare system are crumbling assisted dying may feel more than merely an option for many 😞

Two related stats:

• Three companies control 90% of the UK's national newspaper market
• Only 13% of Brits say they deeply trust the press

Glad to have co-authored this little guide offering a better way forward – thanks for a great launch!

We need systems that rebuild epistemic resilience from the ground up:

- Teach verification and critical thinking from an early age

- Rewire institutions to operate transparently in an open-source world

- Reinvest in investigative infrastructure that spans journalism, law, and education

Some good news 👏👏 All pupils in families receiving Universal Credit will now be eligible for free school meals.

Our research shows this change will keep 135,000 fewer children from facing severe hardship. This is a HUGE step forward.

The boy who came back: the near-death, and changed life, of my son Max It was, we were told, a case of sudden infant death syndrome interrupted. What followed would transform my understanding of parenting, disability and the breadth of what makes a meaningful life

I wrote for the Guardian’s Saturday magazine about my son Max, who changed how I see the world. Took ages. More jokes after the first bit.

Thanks Merope Mills for being the most patient and generous editor.

Thames Water plans to pay out MILLIONS in bonuses to bosses – using funding from emergency £3 billion loan.

These are the bosses who've led the utility into £20 billion of debt, hiked bills for customers and keep dumping sewage in our rivers.

Private ownership at its finest!
