From my experience the only products for which the price argument still holds true is cheese alternatives and ready to use egg alternatives. Butter, cream, honey, milk, yogurt, etc these days all have alternatives that cost the same as their dairy counterparts that are indistinguishable taste wise

What makes you think veganism is silly or expensive? Like most plant based substitutes for meat are already vegan these days and like at least in my country many dairy substitutes are now just as cheap as the cheapest animal diary counterparts

Interestingly enough while cilantro does taste like soap to me too I found that in certain dishes that works shockingly well. Mostly stews. It just adds this little bit of freshness to an otherwise very heavy Chili or Dahl, rounding things out beautifully.
