Seriously ma’am, where exactly IS the wild? You moved to a wooded area with large lots. The wild starts the moment you step past your door. Why does everyone seem to think nature only exists “somewhere else?”

Not necessarily. Mine becomes swamped with invasive plants if I’m not vigilant

Area previously covered in periwinkle, mostly cleared, with some newly planted ferns placed in a line through the area.

Behind the newly cleared area, a large patch of golden ragwort gets some evening sun. The yellow flowers tower well above the leaves. That area was previously covered in honeysuckle and multiflora rose, and packera is being used to crowd out invasives in that area.

The slow but steady removal of vinca continues… removed a large patch of the stuff and put in some ostrich ferns and sedges to hopefully spread into the space. This has been an ongoing project, and mountain mint and packera are spreading nicely through previous sections

Pale pink native pinxter azalea blooms in the woods. The blooms have very long darker pink stamens extend far past the petals and curve upwards.

Today was a fun day of cleaning up the garden and pulling invasives. Sadly found a lot of my mountain laurels have died. But also found this beauty :)

Sometimes my pedantry comes up and bursts forth before I can stop it, but whoever designed that needs a refresher as they’ve drawn a Viceroy, not a monarch 😆

(That said it’s a great sentiment and I saw multiple similar signs at a recent protest in our area)

I sliced my thumb open on a cheese grater while be to blood thinners. That thing bled for hours.

Proud to say I’ve since sliced a matching wound to my other thumb and now have delightful symmetrical scarring.

The parts of this I saw were so sad. No tax on tips helped this woman when her husband got a horrible diagnosis and they were struggling.

But maybe a real health care system would help more.

I think these are solitary Mason bees, so there’s likely no real nest :)

In short- is this something a responsible rescue or shelter would actually do?

In addition animals in shelters or rescues may have trauma in their past, and a situation like this might be confusing or overwhelming for them. Animals may act very differently in this situation than they would normally.

We also have to think about “is this actually a good idea”?

Adopting an animal is a serious business and adopters need to be vetted and need to spend some time picking the right animal for their situation. Good orgs will have adopters spend some time with the animals.
