This is a) utterly terrifying and b) vital. Don’t turn away. The crisis is fixable because it is, ultimately, political. We know the chemistry. We decline the action necessary.

Same boat. 2 primary breast cancers in my 40s; late metastatic recurrence on my mind. Plus 5 skins cancers. My immune system clearly needs some help to fight the good fight. Line me up for trial or treatment!!

Breaking: Australia joins other nations in call for an immediate end to war in Gaza "We, the signatories listed below, come together with a simple, urgent message: the war in Gaza must end now," the statement said.

It’s taken far too long, but our politicians are beginning to realise how disgusted we are by their complicity with Israel.

They’re not moving on this for ethical reasons, it’s recognition that they’ve lost the public.

Keep pushing.

None of this passes the pub test - The Shot Jillian Segal’s report, the entire double-spaced, decorative and glossy 16 pages of it, is largely insulting dross.

Here's @ronnisalt.bsky.social. 'None of this passes the pub test'

Enormous black electric Ute in underground carpark overhanging the allocated space with back wheels and tray due to the excessive size compared to standard vehicles

Great campaign and so very important. I'd like to see costs based on vehicle size, not just for parking, but also for road use. Perhaps providing only 1-2 large car spots in car parks and fines if use normal ones. The growth in vehicle size is ludicrous.

I was explaining to my Ukrainian colleague the phrase ‘There’s no such thing as a free lunch’. She told me the equivalent in Ukrainian is ‘The only free cheese is in the mousetrap’ - which is so much better

La Niña Years—Our “Cool” Years—Are Now Warmer Than El Niño Years Every year, Earth’s temperature changes a little. Sometimes it gets hotter, and sometimes cooler. Scientists track this closely to understand how our climate is changing. But it’s not just about clima...

Think La Niña years are “cool”? Not anymore. Even our coolest years today are hotter than the hottest El Niño years of the past. Climate change is flipping the script — fast. A huge thank you to @zacklabe.com for his amazing graphic!

Is U.S. Democracy Past the Tipping Point? - Dame Magazine With the acquittal of Donald J. Trump on the charge of inciting an insurrection, the Republican Party finally pushed the government of the United States past the tipping point. For all that we have en...

And a month after that: “If the January 6th insurrection asked the question of what we had become as a nation, the inevitability of Republican acquittal answered it. […] The machinations of Senate Republicans did not rebuke the vicious mob that had come to destroy the Capitol; they represented it.”

Nuclear waste is a problem for many generations to come. We're talking about centuries. Are we sure humans can handle them, without interruption for, say, 300 years?
Those claiming nuclear energy is ecological will always forget the issue of nuclear waste, a very long lasting hot potato.

IAC I don’t see any significant trend to support assertions that "the waves/impact is getting lower", or "it’s just another season virus now". The pattern is actually waves of random intensity and timing – all driven by the arrival of new variants.

Antarctic Ice Sheet tipping in the last 800,000 years warns of future ice loss - Communications Earth & Environment The Antarctic Ice Sheet exhibits hysteresis and irreversible ice loss, with West Antarctic collapse contributing over 4 m of sea-level rise even under minimal additional warming, according to 800,000-...

🧊🌊 Antarctic Ice Sheet tipping point?

West Antarctica likely already past a collapse threshold – needing <0.25 °C more deep ocean warming to tip irreversibly.

4 m of sea-level rise could be locked in, even with no further warming.

In one awful decision, Albanese has revealed his do-nothing plan If you want to govern effectively, you have to be prepared to stand up to powerful interest groups. It’s now clear Albanese isn’t prepared to do that.

This was a bad decision @albomp.bsky.social One that will be held against you for decades. It will come back to bite you every time you try to claim the high moral ground on climate change. www.smh.com.au/business/the...

Ross Gittins is too kind saying that Albanese is not prepared to stand up to powerful interest groups.

Labor is - just like the Coalition - a wholly-owned subsidiary of the fossil fuel industry.

If not already, Australians will come to regret failing to elect a minority government. #auspol
