How does she find time to doordash for cancer when JD Vance told her to provide free daycare for her grandkids?

I really need somewhere to keep up with my friends that isn't enshittified.

Writing them a letter *telling* them why is good too.
Thanks for the reminder.

The enraging things are coming faster than I have the capacity to be enraged.

That book was so well-written, and so hard to read.

YMMV, but I want to know what my friends are reading so I can get new recommendations from people I know. I do not assume they are bragging.

I stopped buying books from Amazon years ago, but I still need to disentangle myself from Goodreads.
I have a good spreadsheet for tracking, but it doesn't replace discovering new authors based on what my friends liked.
Storygraph isn't quite what I want either. If you find solutions, please share.

This is painfully true, but ALSO I read recently that Epstien was, on top of being a pedophile procurer, a guy who could get rich people whatever they wanted, which might include a collection of other illegal activities that the powerful would not want revealed.

The days will get longer now, but I'm hoping that *knowing* the days will get longer will also be helpful.

Incredible art-as-protest by Congolese collective using "consumption goods and rubbish" for costumes & performance. This slideshow is worth clicking through.

I'm very excited to see what this group (and Brandes!) came up with this time. ♥

My favorite tyrant joke: a man comes every day and peers at the front page of the newspaper without buying it.

The newspaper vendor says, "what are you looking for?"
"An obituary."
"Obituaries aren't on the front page."
"This one will be."

I just spoke with a local woman whose kids' middle-school may be (temporarily) closed because so many students have the flu.

Be careful out there, friends.

There are so many other options for books, ebooks, and audio right now. If people just buy a different e-reader the next time their kindle dies, we can all be free!

Are you referring X-itter?
Who in their right mind would think it was a good idea to go back there?

btw, if anyone didn't get an invitation and wanted one, let me know. I mostly used an email list from last year and mistakes sometimes happen. I can fix it by making sure you're on the next one.

Thanks to everyone who showed up for our holiday party Saturday. I had a great time seeing you all.

Now for a week of eating decadent leftovers!
