A turquoise circle emblazoned with a University emblem of book, shield, and laurels. "EST 1811" can be seen underneath the book. Around the emblem reads "Proud graduate of the Jane Austen School for Unrealistic Expectations."
Oops. I did it again. New design for my shop. You know who you are, and your diploma is a weapon.

The first line of BURY THE DEAD is "Going home is hard." Ollie hasn't felt like it's home since her mom and sister were murdered, but she's struggling to keep a connection to her past while moving toward her future.

Maggie left for college and never went back to the place she grew up. Denny's close to his family, but he's not living in the same city anymore.
A lot of my characters leave (and not just for witness protection). Something about needing to be someone a place won't let them be.

It's cheesy but from the heart: it's the people that make my characters have a sense of home. You have the places that locals will recognize, but you also have the comfort of MCs being able to relax and be their messiest self around certain people within those places.

The vast majority of my characters call Michigan home because it's what I know best. My current WIP is set in Grand Rapids and Traverse City, but there's also South Range, and Marquette, and Kalamazoo ... and a town I made up in Iowa. 😆 That's for characters in witness protection.

Hello! I'm Rebecca and I write nonfiction (true crime) and fiction (thrillers set in my home state of Michigan). This week I started drafting a novel where Maggie has the worst day of her life: she gets a cancer diagnosis on the same day her little sister is arrested for murder.

The Government has decided I owe them $247 a month for student loans starting in May, so if you had any interest in buying my books or crochet things, I would love to sell you some!
I also do custom crochet things, so feel free to reach out!

Just as I was about to fall asleep last night I jerked awake with the realization that, while cleaning out my laptop, I’d deleted all the notes for my book that’s due in October. Luckily Past Me had saved it in two other places.
Be like Past Me. Back up your work.

table of contents Ollie Clark—Wednesday, June 26, 2019 Len was in his cabin, and he turned down the music—classical, of all things—before opening the door. “Ollie. Eli.” Each name was two syllables, but they clearly didn’t taste the same in his mouth. “How can I help you?” “You…
The thing is, this is probably happening because AI book “authors” are uploading hundreds of books and then not selling many of them because that’s not the plan.
… no.
… yes.
Fan art of Emmrich from Dragon Age: The Veilguard, digital painting. Emmerich is divided down the middle, with his human form on the left, and his Lich form on the right.
A cute goblin digital painting, showing the goblin in armor and using a barrel lid as a shield / paint palette, while holding up a magically glowing paint brush.
A dragon that looks as if it is made from living wood, standing in a burnt out forest and regrowing it with magic.
A robed figure standing before a giant mystical elk in a snowy forest.

table of contents Ollie Clark—Wednesday, June 26, 2019 It was amazing how much packing you could get done when you stayed in the apartment. When you left your phone on silent, face down, in another room so you didn’t have to see missed calls or messages of any sort. Including the…
“I’m really not used the heat anymore.”
“Where are you from?” Ollie tried not to show how inane she thought the cocktail party question was.
Johanna smiled. “Albuquerque. It’s a dry heat.”

Bury the Dead: 11
table of contents Ollie Clark—Sunday, June 23, 2019 It was clearly choreographed, but that was to be expected. After dinner—Vollwerth’s hot dogs and brats with store-bought potato salad and coleslaw—Cindy and Eli disappeared inside to do the dishes and Jared said he’d walk Len…

I really don’t mind telling someone “It’s because of my cancer meds” because maybe that’ll bring them up short and make them realize hey, we need to stop putting people on the spot and making them justify why they won’t drink alcohol.

table of contents Ollie Clark—Sunday, June 23, 2019 Ollie knew some church families, but she’d never really been involved with any, so Sundays weren’t for church. They were a time to generally avoid restaurants and grocery stores when the local services got out, since they’d be…
