i had a weird fondness for Serendipity when i was younger, but i always wrote that off as “The Cusack Factor”.

i didn’t realize that i enjoyed the occasional cheesy rom-com until recently.
i’ve been on a kick picking up cheap lots of cards from ‘94 to ‘96, when i was playing as a kid. nothing major.
yeah, i really don’t understand it. i’ve exhausted all the local shops that might have 90s-era MTG cards, so it looks like i’m back to buying random mixed lots on eBay.
you can tell the big box retailers care more about online orders/store pickups rather than in-person customers nowadays, but it’s a bit jarring for small businesses to follow the trend.
i’m guessing it’s a way to make sure they stay in order or something. or they took the time to scan and add all the individual cards to their site’s shop, so they want to validate the time spent doing it?
like, heaven forbid i want the tactile experience of looking through stacks of cards.
especially because i don’t have any particular cards that i’m looking for.
totally dig going to a physical store looking for loose, vintage cards, seeing the boxed inventory on a shelf behind the counter, and having the guy tell you to use the store tablet to select what you want — or to go home and order online.
might be one of the first times as a kid that i realized that characters were voiced by actual people. but it’s a toss up between them, Cobra Commander/Starscream, and Garfield/Venkman on RGB
any in particular you’ve had trouble finding?
i could keep an eye out, ‘cause it seems like my local Walmarts are always stacked.
Jack Knight, Black Condor, and Gangbuster..?
man, they really want me to start collecting that line.
not gonna lie, i enjoyed You, Me & Tuscany quite a bit.
glad i got to break it in with a movie i haven’t seen in ages (but used to rent all the time when i was a teen).
success!
a week later and i’m finally testing her out.
so far, so good.
back when i used to blog, one of my favorite posts was how i tricked my aunt into buying me Beefsteak for my birthday because my mom refused to let me have any Killer Tomatoes toys.
(which was weird because she was fine with Robocop, Toxic Crusaders, and Alien/Predator.)
maybe it hasn’t happened yet because i’ve never said, “maybe it will happen today.”
i take full responsibility.
every loss is tragic, but this one really fucking stings.
he was the absolute best of us. whip-smart, kind, and a beacon in our tight knit community.
i only had the privilege of chatting with him once, but our interactions here (and other sites) were always great.
my heart is with his family.
Courageous used to constantly fight my KO Imperial Godzilla and random Dormei dinosaurs when i was a kid.
i don’t know if i ever used him playing with my Gobots and TFs.
and mine needs his own space!
it’s funny, he got in a bunch of loose Filmation GB figures — and the buggy, which went into his personal collection.
the guy he got them from mentioned having the GB HQ, and my buddy was pumped thinking it was the Filmation one, but it ended up being the Real GB firehouse. he was so bummed.
i honestly forgot it even existed until i saw him carrying the box, but i want it -really- bad.
the price is high. definitely more than i’ve paid for… well, any collectible. but there’s nothing on eBay, not even loose/incomplete.
the box is open, but it’s complete and unused. if i had the space for it — and a few extra bucks to spare — i’d be all over it.
my buddy pulled it out of the backroom and i immediately started geeking out. he was surprised i knew what it was right away.
my buddy got this in at his shop. so, so tempting!
i priced out of playing pretty early on, only really did a couple years of local tournaments and free-play with friends. there was no way i could keep up with players dropping money on “big” cards.
i missed a lot of the great early expansions and sets. i used to buy tons of Fallen Empires and Homelands because they were cheaper and easy to find.
Baron Sengir or fuck off.
the world is on fire, so let’s pretend it’s 1995 and rip a pack of Homelands.
