With its unique & beautiful ambiance, the setting stole the spotlight. Parallels of personal grief & ecological deterioration haunted the narrative. Questions were left unanswered for longer than necessary. The last 1/4 of the book held all the action.

This is PS I Love You but starring a bookish introvert with the personality of a wet blanket surrounded by semi-supportive extroverts. It read like a literary agent's self-insert fanfiction. The concept was stronger than the execution. I wouldn't recommend this to a friend. #booksky

I started #reading A BOX FULL OF DARKNESS by Simone St. James.

"Siblings return to the house they fled eighteen years before, called back by the ghost of their long-missing brother and his haunting request to come home."

I'm so glad you liked it! I finished it last night and unfortunately found it to be boring 😪 but I appreciated the cozy cute parts!

I'm #reading THIS BOOK MADE ME THINK OF YOU by Libby Page.

"A woman receives an unexpected gift from the man she loved and lost—a year of books, one for every month—launching a reading-inspired journey to live, dream, and love again in this glimmering and heart-stopping novel."

This #book explored the brutality of industrial innovation in an easy to digest fantasy setting. The philosophical monologues ignite the reader to hunger for justice. I loved the duality between characters and a no holds barred ending. I'd give it more stars if I could!

I started reading BLOOD OVER BRIGHT HAVEN by M. L. Wang.

"The first woman ever admitted to the High Magistry and her janitor turned lab assistant with a past that makes him more than he seems, discover the magic that fuels their industrial utopia has a cost—and the collectors have come calling." 💙📚

Who needs a ghost when you have ADHD? I forget to close cabinet doors and constantly misplace important objects around the house. I'm over here haunting myself.

A family unraveling weaves their stories together to discover a nefarious town mystery. I couldn't see the trajectory of the story at first, and was nearly lost in the high brow prose. Once the plot began to piece together and the dry humor snuck in, I couldn't put it down! 📚💙

Oh, totally! Harper was hilarious. I also loved Bud's dry humor.

I feel the same! I don't think I expected it to be entertaining because the beginning was aimless. I really enjoyed how the author gave the reader clues that the characters may have missed due to their age, intelligence, or mental health status.

Thanks for sharing! It looks interesting, but I'm with you. A dud MC can really pull you out of a story.

I've started reading LOST LAMBS by Madeline Cash.

"Catherine and Bud's open marriage has reached its breaking point as their daughters spiral in their own chaotic orbits. When the youngest investigates rumors of corruption in town, the family is sent hurtling into a criminal conspiracy."

Suri drops readers into a textured world rich with description and sharp motivations. The culture and politics infuse the narrative with life. Some character voices blur due to similar cadence. One POV dragged for me, but was needed for a sequel setup.

I liked it a lot! Very trippy concept with great use of tension. I've been trying to get my hands on Between Two Fires from a local book shop or thrift spot. I found a signed copy at Powell's in Portland but I couldn't justify dropping $100 on a book that day 😭

My fav horror/psychological thrillers from last year were We Used To Live Here by Kliewer and Between Two Fires by Buehlmam. Our literary tastes and attention have evolved in the 21st century. Older books don't appeal to us as much, as a society.

I finished No More Tears enlightened & enraged. J&J has gone unchecked, knowingly killing millions to expand profit. The investigative journalism was thorough and comprehensive. From baby powder to COVID vaccines, it spans 80 years of corruption.
