Recruitment for Creative Bridges will open in Autumn 2025. We’re proud to be shaping the future of screen industries through the arts and humanities and grateful for the AHRC’s support to do so. #CreativeBridges #ScreenIndustries
David Percival, Head of Engineering at EA Codemasters, said: “Working as integrated partners, combining the passion and fresh thinking at UK universities with the experience, creative vision and business relevance from the best of the UK games industry, we can create, explore and imagine together.”
Sonny Hanley, Director of ITV Academy, one of the partner organisations said: “Working with the Universities of Leeds and Warwick through Creative Bridges allows us to shape the questions and the challenges we would like the next generation of researchers to focus on."
Professor Jo Garde-Hansen, Head of the School of Media and Communication, said: "Our goal is to rethink how we train researchers for, and with, the creative industries, and to ensure that the next generation of scholars are equipped to respond to critical challenges."
Creative Bridges reimagines doctoral training for the creative economy. With partners like ITV Academy, the programme will support new collaborations across universities and industry, and help diversify the UK’s future creative talent pipeline.
Led by Prof Jo Garde-Hansen (Leeds) and Dr David Wright (Warwick), with co-leads Prof Anamik Saha (Leeds) and Dr Sanjay Sharma (Warwick), the programme will connect strong regional clusters and train researcher-practitioners to tackle two sector-wide priorities: sustainability and diversity.
Running from 2026 to 2033, Creative Bridges will support 20 PhD researchers working alongside – and within – film, TV, gaming, and immersive media. Based in Yorkshire and the Midlands, the programme supports new research and real-world industry engagement.
