Regular readers will know that I did mergers and demergers for a living before joining the NHS.

The mean time for a new org to fully settle its operations post-merger is around 2 years, and the culture takes up to 5 years.

If you never let things settle, you will always be running inefficiently.

How wonderful. To have someone to have your back and trust you at work is a precious gift. As it should be - but so often isn’t. Makes such a difference.

If we want patients to feel held & safe, then NHS workers also need to feel held & safe. These things are totally related. What we have now is overwhelm & anxiety spreading through our services. We need to think systemically... to see the relationship between cared-for workers & cared-for patients.

I have had a couple of hospital admissions over last few weeks and experienced small acts of kindness and compassion others will not have seen. Often from the lowest paid colleagues. We absolutely need to value our NHS clinicians to enable them to care - we need to care for them. #thankyouNHS

Bumblebee population increases 116 times over in 'remarkable' Scotland project ‘The sound of traffic and a uniform sea of barley have been replaced by the most beautiful meadows, full of wildflowers, young saplings and the buzz of bees’

A good news story.

“The bumblebee population has made an impressive comeback in a developed area by increasing to 116 times what it was two years ago thanks to a nature restoration group.”

More GPs using social prescribing to help with mental health Doctors are using social prescribing to help patients suffering with mental health issues.

The benefits of the great outdoors are hard to research, being impossible to separate all the variables, as I found in my walking research many years ago...outdoors, exercise, social setting. My anecdotal evidence is I couldn't do without being in nature! 1/

The govt has its 3 shifts it wants to make in NHS.

But it's the workforce that'll make it happen.

A future NHS needs far more space for reflection & sharing experiences. Imagine a workforce that was meaningfully supported with basic needs, able to think clearly. This is core to safe, quality care.
