I went and saw Maigret and the Dead Lover last night at Lincoln Center. There was Q&A afterwards with Pascal Bonitzer (director) and Manuel Guillot (Janvier). Probably one of the highlights of my life. 🥺🌹

I think it’s especially important for Angel’s character because normally he is all about ignoring, diverting or downplaying the fact he’s being abused by pretending to be sexual 24/7. So as symbolism is also the moment he must face the reality he’s in, he can’t escape physically or mentally.

Many many. There’s also a new pbs series but that one is pretty derivative. It’s been controversial lol. Personally not for me but it exists. There’s also 3 50s French films, a 60s French series, a Japanese series, an Italian series…. But the ones mentioned before are the easiest to access

Both good. And if you get really into it you should buy the Bruno Cremer DVDs. Or stream them if you’re UK. The Rupert Davis is good too and partial on YouTube

Maigret’s first case! Not sure I liked the ending but it has a lot of good moments. At one point he’s at home sulking trying to passive aggressively make his boss feel bad for being so mean to him xD

It could work but they need to change much more. Like there is one Simenon book where he’s in his 20s and it’s funny asf. He gets beat up by three guys because it’s very headstrong and stupid xD

Maybe sloth could be like he has lots of feelings and opinions but is slothful to act? Idk since he spoke up for Stolas during the trial but ultimately still stood in line so maybe that could be something? Or maybe after the trial he becomes slothful because he feels guilty? Could be interesting!
