They're definitely out there! How many indie/niche community spaces are you in? EG I'm in a discord server for Carved from Brindlewood games (indie publisher The Gauntlet) and they've got their own channel to post for games and groups that's always hopping
It's got a neat origin story. US war of Independence, overnight fortress siege by the British, and this scraggly US rebel finally sees the sun comes up and writes a poem about the relief of having survived.

I discovered you can be pretty bad at art and if you do any sketches for a game you run your players will still fall all over themselves fawning over it. Napkin-sketch quality but made just for them and they eat it up
But I've never played a "scholar" and am often asked to roll a history check. My character would know more about the history of her hometown than the background of an obscure order of knights. Presumably my DM manages the difference with an increased DC but that's invisible to me, hence muddy
