Meridionally consistent decline in the observed western boundary contribution to the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation Western boundary observations in the Atlantic suggest a meridionally consistent decline in the ocean overturning circulation.

The Atlantic’s “conveyor belt” is slowing.

New observations from 16.5°–42.5°N show a two-decade, basin-wide decline in deep western overturning, the first robust observational evidence that the AMOC is weakening, confirming long-standing model predictions.

Sam Altman Says It'll Take Another Year Before ChatGPT Can Start a Timer An $852 billion company, ladies and gentlemen.

Putting aside Sam Altman just continuing to emit huge lies constantly, this is an amazing example of what I mean when I talk about how GenAI is replacing *extremely low energy* digital tasks with *WAY WAY HIGHER ENERGY* replacements that *do not even work*

Why TF is anyone using ChatGPT as a timer!

I don't remember seeing an image of Earth before that captures the (thin, fragile, tiny layer of) atmosphere so clearly. I mean, look at that.

I just did the dumbest thing of my entire career to prove a much more serious point.

I tricked ChatGPT and Google, and made them tell other users I’m a competitive hot-dog-eating world champion

People are using this trick on a massive scale to make AI tell you lies. I’ll explain how I did it

Scientists no Longer Find Twitter Professionally Useful, and have Switched to Bluesky Synopsis. Social media has become widely used by the scientific community for a variety of professional uses, including networking and public outreach. For

I research dictatorships for a living and have spend a non-negligible amount of time reading the words of madmen like Gaddafi, Hitler, and the Kims of North Korea. Even to me this is fucking bunkers.

That was, unfortunately, no different here. Over time, fireworks had, more than anything, become a topic of identity politics. Recently, bc of extremely visible negatives (warzone scenes and attacks on first aid responders), we've reached a point where a full ban is in place from next year. Hope!

On the other Dutch radar it is very clear birds are fleeing away from fireworks towards quiet places like the Wadden Sea and IJsselmeer (a huge inland lake). See the patterns of reflectivity moving towards the East/ESE.
