This story took me nine months to write, and I could tell it was the best thing I'd done. I felt like it was good enough to get me into a dream magazine. I was real careful with it, sending it out to like one pub at a time. It took a year and 27 rejections.

@passagesnorth.bsky.social is a dream pub for me because it's one of, like, three lit mags I'd actually heard of before I started doing all this. And here it is: "I Don't Need Your Whole Life Story," a piece about a guy who fakes his own death and it works so great he just keeps doing it.

Yeah! I feel this way too. Like if you bought a weird tool off an infomercial late at night and instead of admitting that it only does a passable job at a couple things, you stubbornly insist on using it for everything.
