It's a constant in the Netherlands, too. I've been in the EU for something like a decade, ever since I was 14, and that apparently leads Europeans to think that I have some sort of magical, automatic right to residency in Europe.

It's admittedly somewhat difficult to think of a more self-defeating public policy decision than "kick well-educated people out of the country."
