Kellerine is now excelling in a DPhil at Oxford, and last month she, our co-author Jingtong, and I celebrated the article’s acceptance by running the #TTPCambridgeHalf Marathon together.
I first met Kellerine in an outbreak response seminar and then discovered she happened to be a student of
@downingcollege.bsky.social where I was a fellow. Very soon after, she trusted me to supervise her MPhil dissertation.
Proud supervisor moment! 🎉
It’s been a pleasure to supervise Kellerine Quah (soon to be Dr Kellerine Quah) for her MPhil dissertation back in 2023. That dissertation has now reached the wider world as a published article in @plosglobalpublichealth.org

Headline in the Financial Times reads, 'UK boosts wastewater tests to raise resilience to germs
UKHSA is expanding wastewater surveillance to track 11 high-risk pathogens, strengthening early warning systems for public health.

The FT article makes a clear case: earlier, more localised detection of infectious threats is becoming essential, not just at a national level, but closer to where people actually live and work. This is where public health monitoring is heading. Kudos to the entire amazing team at Untap Health!
Very exciting to see our study on #wastewatersurveillance referenced in the @financialtimes.com highlighting the value of near-source, building-level surveillance alongside national systems.

🌍 New OpEd Alert! Biodiversity is not just an environmental issue — it's a health issue.
Yesterday, @cwalzer.bsky.social and I published an OpEd in @statnews.com calling for the health sector to confront a critical blind spot: biodiversity loss.
The UK isn’t prepared for the next pandemic – and nor are many other countries.
