There will probably be a development arc in the future - because instant notifications on your mobile phone can be useful for the science.

Just to note: This is being done on a trial basis. There are drawbacks to the HTML5 approach to notifications - eg it can be severed without the user knowing (if, eg the use logged off for 24 hours and so the server drops the Notification) - which wouldn't happen with an app.
