Did you knowβ¦ a dataset sitting in a drawer has zero impact factor? ποΈπ«
Months of work in the lab, but nobody sees the data? What a shame! Sharing data leads to citations, new collaborations and real progress.

Today is Document Freedom Day. We celebrate developments that support open standards & formats.
Our contribution: repositories for FAIR data storage, workshops for FAIR data management. And an lab journal "Chemotion ELN", programmed for the needs of chemists and supports the creation of open data.
π§ͺπIs making #chemistry data FAIR really as hard as everyone thinks? We talked to Marius Engler, winner of the FAIR4Chem Award 2026, about the myth of "too much effort."

This process is fully participative and more publishers are very welcome to join the discussion.
The second day was dedicated to the technical details which serve the authors and reviewers during the publication process, e.g. validation tools.
The DFG highlighted their guidelines on good research practice. Moreover, the benefits of FAIR data for researchers were highlighted. All participants then worked on a joint memorandum of understanding on Open and Responsible Data in Chemistry.
On the first day, the current situation was discussed: technically all infrastructure is ready to publish data in a FAIR manner, but the cultural change needs more time. Most funders encourage or enforce the deposition of project results as FAIR data.
as well as the enormous benefits for the research community. The results of these two intensive days will be incorporated into a joint memorandum β an important step towards transparent and interconnected science.
The aim? Not only to discuss the status quo of scientific publishing, but to actively improve it towards a closer integration of research data.
The focus is on publishing research data according to the FAIR principles. We are examining the technical and logistical hurdles of data publication
The future of chemical publishing: From vision to standard. π§ͺπ
NFDI4Chem is currently bringing together the industryβs key players at the 3rd Editors4Chem event: representatives from IUPAC, CODATA, PSDI, RSC, CCDC, as well as Thieme, Wiley-VCH, Springer Nature, the Beilstein Institute and the DFG.

π§ͺβ¨In chemistry, we often only celebrate the "happy path" results. But for AI, your "failures" are essential training material! π€
Otherwise, ML will never learn what happens. By sharing even your "fail" data according to FAIR principles, you are feeding innovation.

Published and yet... disappeared? π
Research data is only as permanent as the repository hosting it. If a repository closes without a clear exit strategy, your work could vanish.
