I watched Saltburn finally and it is such my jam, and I don’t know (and don’t want to know) what that says about me 😬

#31HorrorFilms31Days #31 THE PEOPLE UNDER THE STAIRS ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
What a movie to end on 😨 Wes Craven does not pull punches when it comes to this one and while it was a tad long and drawn out, this was an absolutely crazy ride that certainly has clearly influenced many movies and films since- I’d recommend.

I remember liking it when I saw it in theaters, but that was a long time ago!

#31HorrorFilms31Days #30 LET THE RIGHT ONE IN ⭐⭐⭐⭐
So this one had me all contemplative. I wouldn't necessarily say it's a horror movie - it just happens to have a vampire in it. It reminds me a bit of A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night, and I will be thinking about it for awhile for sure.

Listen,= this was fine, but the last quarter of the film dragged so much! I’m all about strong femmes and sisterhood but honestly if it was like 20 minutes shorter it would have been much better 😩 Still, I see why it's attained cult status.

#31HorrorFilms31Days #28 CENSOR ⭐️⭐️
Listen, this had SO MUCH promise. The beginning, partnered with a great leading performance and clear derision of censorship and Thatcher’s England, should have made this a hit for me…but it ultimately lost me with crap character development and ending 😕

#31HorrorFilms31Days #27 SLOTHERHOUSE ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Listen, is this a “good” movie? No. But I enjoyed the viewing experience and that has to count for something. It helps that I love sloths too 😂 Ultimately imo a solid horror comedy that knows how absurd it really is.

#31HorrorFilms31Days #26 LAKE MUNGO ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I just loved this film’s slow approach and build-up. This isn’t going to be for everyone, especially those who like high octane slashers, but for those wanting a soft, unsettling take on grief and what comes after life this will be a winner.

#31HorrorFilms31Days #25 TOTALLY KILLER ⭐️⭐️💫
I think it’s just a theme of this year’s challenge for me to watch movies with great potential and disappointing execution. Ultimately this fell flat both as a horror and as a comedy film, and I’m unsatisfied tbh 🤷🏻‍♀️

#31HorrorFilms31Days #24 EVENT HORIZON ⭐⭐⭐
There was a lot of promise here- a great cast and an interesting plot- but ultimately it didn’t coalesce into a great movie for me, which was a big old bummer because normally this would be just my thing! Overall a 2.75 ⭐️ for me.

#31HorrorFilms31Days #23 THE VIGIL ⭐⭐⭐💫
I keep going back and forth about how I feel about this one. On one hand, it was a unique and really interesting story & subject matter. On the other hand, I feel its execution wasn’t what it should have been. Nonetheless, this is a gem and I’d recommend it!

#31HorrorFilms31Days #22 IN FABRIC ⭐️⭐️💫
Basically Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants but with a killer dress 🤷🏻‍♀️ The first half / two thirds was strong but it was ultimately let down by a directionless last act. Also it’s A24 (whom I love but can acknowledge faults) so it’s a bit nonsensical.

#31HorrorFilms31Days #21 I STILL KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER ⭐⭐
I wanted to rewatch this because I thought I remembered liking it, but ultimately it's a good idea / plotline with poor execution (pardon the pun). Brandi still slays tho!

#31HorrorFilms31Days #20 DEEP RED ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Listen, that the soundtrack detracted quite a bit from my experience of the film- particularly in the time of tension-building. It’s my first Argento and I can see bits of his style throughout so I’m sure I’ll watch more 🤷🏻‍♀️

#31HorrorFilms31Days #19 HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL ⭐️⭐️⭐️
I go back and forth about how I feel about this. It is clearly an influential work in the genre and I enjoyed the twists, but it’s obviously a product of its time and it was hard to keep my interest at times. Still, I’m glad I watched this classic!

A screenshot from the linked article reads:

“I don’t trust them,” said Ali Abdul Bari, a 37-year-old resident of Gaza City said of the Israeli army. “But I will always do whatever I can to keep my family safe.”

Bari’s apartment on the northwest edge of Gaza City was flattened in a huge airstrike late Thursday. Dazed and weary from nights spent awake, he arrived in Khan Younis, a city in southern Gaza, after the evacuation order, but couldn’t fit all his family members in the car. He promised his aunt and uncle that he would return for them Saturday. Bari said the decision was simple for him.

“I am responsible for my parents, my brothers and my sisters,” he said.

“This way we will be together and can read the Quran and pray,” he said.

For many, word of evacuations moved slowly, due to the the collapse of mobile phone networks and internet in much of Gaza.

In the heart of Gaza City — a once-vibrant district hollowed out by heavy bombardment — 27-year-old engineer Saeb al-Jarz was waiting for word of his father, who was wounded in an airstrike on their residential tower late Thursday. Three of his neighbors were killed and his family home destroyed.

Still in shock from the scenes he witnessed, al-Jarz first heard about the Israeli army’s evacuation ultimatum from an Associated Press reporter. He was thrown into a panic, scrambling to figure out next steps with his 25 relatives.

“Maybe we stay, because if we die, we die together,” he said.

His voice trembled. He changed his mind.

“I just really, really want to live,” he said.

#31HorrorFilms31Days #18 THE INNKEEPERS ⭐️⭐️
Listen I didn’t like X so once I found out Ti West was involved in this, my expectations lowered. I just wasn’t invested in the storyline or characters so by the time the action picked up, I just couldn’t care 🤷🏻‍♀️ This just wasn’t for me.

I love strong femmes and coming of age stories, so I was bound to enjoy this one. It’s not perfect but it’s a beautiful, fun ride and a great pick for those who enjoyed The Thing or like creature features.

#31HorrorFilms31Days #15 HIS HOUSE ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
I didn’t know what to expect, but what I got was a layered horror film exploring the depths of grief, trauma, and home. Some of the storytelling choices lost me, but perhaps repeated viewings are needed to fully comprehend the breadth of this one.

#31HorrorFilms31Days #14 MEMENTO MORI ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
Listen, we stan queer revenge in this house okay?? A layered portrayal of bullying, love, and revenge, I think I need to watch this again to fully unpack everything. It’s dense, it’s quick, but it’s ultimately a fascinating film.
