The reason Moby Dick is the most American novel ever written is because it is about a violent white man enacting a confusing revenge fantasy against a cheap source of oil.

Philippa Foot: I invented the Trolley Problem to expose the flaws of consequentialism.
Our entire society: Finally we have created the Trolley Problem from classic philosophical work Do Not Create The Trolley Prob—
*out-of-control trolley ploughs through the group, mercifully ending the debate*
To not be or not to be—that is the question
I still like Chomsky but it’s just as a linguistics guy now. I no longer respect him as a sexual being
Some colleague should put Galatians 3:28 on their proposed ethics syllabus, and send the overseers into conniptions
The distinction (when it’s relevant) between reasons for acting and reasons for (a completed) action

I realize I was assuming it will be written in the Latin alphabet. That isn’t a sure bet
Impressive! Similarly, I know all the letters in the future scientific paper that explains the cure for cancer
LOL. That second one 🤔
Who am I kidding? I actually hate a lot of things
It’s nice when your enemies all line up at once. Only other thing needed here is a Duke jersey.

OP's screenshotted quote, but doctored to now read: ""I'm the motherf***er that's putting my life on the line, not you. You ain't stepping your motherf***ing ass in that [FACTORY]. You or nobody else. So why should I have to pay to carry your [SURPLUS VALUE]? You should be paying me, if you want to be truthful. It irks my nerves how this dude gets on a plane, gets a hotel suite — him and his buddies — they go out to dinner, five-star meals, all that, and guess who's got to pay for it? Us [WORKERS]. We're paying for y'all to come out here, have the time of your life, stay in the best hotels of your life, and it's all done on our dime."
Shorter Capital chap. 1:
Notably, a lot of the current wave of "AI-infused" curriculum overhauls are being pushed by provosts looking to make the jump to president and trying hard to win the attention of the (callow, ignorant) trustees who make those hires

I want you to understand what it is like to live in Chicago during this time. Every day my phone buzzes. It is a neighborhood group: four people were kidnapped at the corner drugstore. A friend a mile away sends a Slack message: she was at the scene when masked men assaulted and abducted two people on the street. A plumber working on my pipes is distraught, and I find out that two of his employees were kidnapped that morning. A week later it happens again. An email arrives. Agents with guns have chased a teacher into the school where she works. They did not have a warrant. They dragged her away, ignoring her and her colleagues’ pleas to show proof of her documentation. That evening I stand a few feet from the parents of Rayito de Sol and listen to them describe, with anguish, how good Ms. Diana was to their children. What it is like to have strangers with guns traumatize your kids. For a teacher to hide a three-year-old child for fear they might be killed. How their relatives will no longer leave the house. I hear the pain and fury in their voices, and I wonder who will be next. Understand what it is to pray in Chicago.

Isn’t it amazing? The tone is perfect, and the acting is unreal

Now, friends at Dartmouth, MIT, Vanderbilt, Texas, etc need to step up.
So so sad to learn about the death of Jonathan Lear. His work on Aristotle and Freud was formative for me. He was a model of philosophical intelligence and curiosity. More importantly he was a human human, with rare integrity and sharp judgment. It's hard to imagine the world without him in it.
Time for a transcen-dental abduction
New idea to create artificial intelligence that exceeds human capacity, not by programming a machine to be more intelligent than we currently are, but instead by making all the humans stupider by replacing reading and formal education with playing with a chatbot, thereby lowering the bar to clear
