Hi everyone!

I'm having surgery tomorrow. It's outpatient, but there's a 3+ week recovery, and I will require treatment after that as well. I'm going to do my best with #reyloww in this time frame, but no promises about this coming week in particular.

Instincts are great. Unfortunately, so many people have other, external pressures convincing them their instincts are wrong or they're being overly sensitive or cautious. There's a whole system in place to get women NOT to listen to their instincts.

Thank you! I am, too. I wish I'd never been in that position. I hope anyone who might see my story will know that it's actually better to decline the trip to the hotel room. I was LUCKY.

Thank you. I just... I hate seeing women questioned about WHY they were in a hotel room, or WHY they accepted a drink, or WHY they stayed in a situation that made them feel weird, or WHY anything...

When the only person who is ever at fault IS THE PERPETRATOR.

At the time... uncomfortable. 17 years later? Freaked out at how badly that could have gone for me.

Thank you! It's only in retrospect that I realized how quickly that situation could have escalated. I straight up did not know that guy. And even if you *do*...

I found out later that he was married. The woman calling him was his wife. They had a child.

I'm glad I did not take the beer, but I wish to hell there had been someone I trusted enough to back me up in NOT being in his hotel room.

Anything could have happened to me that night. Anything.

I went to his hotel room. He was chatty. He kept getting phone calls from "his sister," whom he said he lived with. He offered me a beer. I declined.

I did get the information out of him that I needed for the document, but the process was nerve-wracking. He had ten years and at least 100lbs on me.

He said yes. When I suggested we meet in the hotel's common area or one of their office spaces, he said no.

He said we should meet in his hotel room, because what we were working on was "too sensitive in a public space."

I was uncomfortable with this, but I was more afraid of losing my job.
